x-50 and mxt comparable?

No one seems to have an answer for the question: Is the x-50 comparable to the MXT
in their capacity to detect nuggets? They both have high kHz coils. In both cases I am
told if you want to find SMALLER gold go with the GMT or the x-70. SInce the probability is
low that I will ever use the MXT prospecting mode, the x-50 would be fine.
It SOUNDS like the x-50 is about on par, with the MXT then
Would this be a fair assessment? ANYONE?

Hi,

I would say the MXT and the X-Terra 70 are comparable as gold hunting units. You have no true all-metal prospecting mode on the X-Terra 50. Both the MXT and X-Terra 70 have such a mode. As to whichh is better, and X-Terra 70 or MXT I think depends on the ground conditions.

strictly using the disc modes on the 50 and MXT I would have to say the MXT would be the winnner.

No ground tracking on the X50 and the MXT's progressive disc allows a much finer tuning of the discrimination setting in the low iron region where small nuggets come in. Not to mention that the 50 does not offer a single tone mode whereas the MXT's audio is a threshold based single tone in coin/jewelry mode which gives a lot of information at low disc settings. IMHO given a choice of using the Coin/treasure mode on the X70 vs the Coin/jewelry mode of the MXT for nugget hunting I would still go with the MXT. Segments and tones cannot compete with progressive disc and a good single tone audio on the real small stuff. But thats just me! I also prefer the MXT's range of gain settings over the X70's when using the disc modes. I just have a feeling that the X70 would be harder to manage at higher settings in tough ground conditions when using the C/T mode.

Question: Given the small price difference between the X70 and MXT why would you consider the X50 as a nugget hunter?
