X-1 Probe

Hello all of you fellow Explorer users I was wondering if someone could help clarify something for me. I just purchased the X-1 probe for my Explorer 11 and after installing the upper rod with X-1 probe attached to it I am a bit sruprised to find that you can no longer put the coil cable through the shaft. Am I doing something wrong or is this the way it has to work. I thought one of the reasons for having the coil cable in the shaft was to cut down on interference from outside noises. I know that alot of other detectors have always ran the cables on the outside but I thought that by Minelab putting the cable inside the shaft they were trying to accomplish something. I would appreciate it if someone could give me some feedback and maybe a picture of how they have their cable mounted. THANK YOU: CHEVY IN OR.

I have the X-1. The cable goes around the outside of the shaft. I don't think it makes any difference as long as the cable isn't flopping around... just about every MD out there has the cable on the outside of the shaft.

Thats right...the only way to run the cable with the X-1 probe is on the outside of the shaft. The benefits of the X-1 far outweigh any cosmetic differences. I've never noticed any difference as far as operation of the machine as far as interference goes. The big difference I've noticed is when I'm knee high in sage brush the cable has snagged once or twice. But, the ease of changing coils more than makes up for those times for me that have been few & far between. The X-1 is invaluable in my book.
