X-1 probe help

Before I call Ralph, who has always very helpful I thought I'd bug you guys first if you do not mind.
I am having problem with probe switching back to coil mode from probe mode. It sounds like the machine is de-tuned if you will, when i switch back.
I hunt in IM -10. If I do use pinpoint mode, I turn it off first before switching back to coil.
To get the machine to act stable again, I usually have to turn it completely off, or flip the switch back and forth from probe to coil to get it settled down.
I run sens to mid 20's or lower
Again the noise I hear is the beeps and chirps you normally hear when you first turn on the explorer.
Ralph did install ground wire last year
Any ideas ?
Thanks all for the time

I would send it back. I don't have this problem with my X1

does when it is turned on and only some of the wires of the coil connection somewhere along the line are making proper conntact.
I experienced a similar problem and behaviour from my Explorer when I attempted(and enventually got it right) to make my own coil extension cable.
It could be one of the wires (or a "dicky" switch in the switch box) that is not making a proper or making an improper contact in relation to your coil/x-1 probe connection. Should be easy to fix if that is what the problem is.
See if the same problem remains by attatching a coil directly to Explorer. If the problem is still there when you run up the SENSE then you may have problems with the detector.
