WWl visor cap eagle grommet

REVIER

Well-known member
This was plucked out of an area that is littered with iron because there used to be a few houses here decades ago.
I have found other old targets at this site, a couple of IH's, some old wheats, a silver thimble, and a local club member supposedly found a trime here in the past.
I come here and try new settings from time to time in hopes of finding just one more cool thing and yesterday this popped up.
With ID help from a member on another forum this thing appears to be a button/grommet that fastened the chin strap on a visor cap.
Could be an enlisted man's garrison cap or an officer's visor cap.
Because of the age of the other things I found here I am assuming the WWl era.
This grommet would allow that chin strap to swivel although I don't see anyone actually doing this but maybe.
Way cool, a relic from the first world war and actually finding it in an iron infested site is a bonus.

Nice find, REVIER! Any WW1 find makes my day and I'm sure that one made yours! Best of luck and...

Happy Hunting!

Can you post the dimensions as I found one identical about 2 yrs ago but was sure what it was other than military.

I will have to find something to measure it so when I do I will let you know.
Diameter is smaller than a dime if that helps.
