WWII Army-Navy Production Award

Sooper Dave

Well-known member
I got out yesterday after work for a two hour hunt and found a few keepers. The pin is an award that was given to companies that participated in any war time efforts. The "E" is for excellence. I love to find pieces like this so I can look up the history of it. I also found a pocket watch case made by Philadelphia Watch Case Co. I found the Post Office Box Door over the weekend at an old town that only has two buildings left standing and the others must have been torn down and burned. The place is very trashed with junk and tons of melted blobs of mystery metal that rings up great on the Etarc. HH Dave

Really nice variety of finds there!

The Excellence Award came in two varieties - Army and Navy. It originally had paint on it and the color defined whether it was Army or Navy. The one I found was the Navy variety. By the way, the pin is sterling silver, but isn't marked as such. Many of these types of items are more interesting, in my opinion, than most of the coins you find.

Thanks for the info Agseeker. This one has "ARMY-NAVY PRODUCTION AWARD STERLING" on the back. I wished more things were made of silver so they would hold up better in the ground. Coins are cool to think about how they were used in the past. But an item like this has a direct link to our history.
