WTB: target detection display and water proof detector

Might think along the line of two units..a metered one for general hunting..and a waterproof one with tones...might be a good Idea to visit a mult-line dealer...and with your budget perhaps come up with something to fit your budget along both lines whether new or used....or for that matter some nice used units come thru this forum every week by
reputable detectorist and sellers...For what you are looking for going to have to hit the max. of your budget one would surmise...

That is a tough one as most waterproof detectors do not have a display.
In fact none of them will tell you what the target is before you did with 100% accuracy.
If any salesperson tells you their detector can tell the difference between a gold ring and a pull tab or a piece of foil ... run away fast ... you are about to get robbed.

There are some used Excalibur (waterproof) detectors for sale for under $800 and that is about as close as you are going to get.

Ever see anyone out detecting at the beach?
What are they using?
Did you ask your husband what detector he might like?

Two detectors -- ok that is good to know. He would want the target identification before the submersible feature.

What does he want -- I have reported as much info as I have. He saw one with the target displayed (which coin) but didn't get the detector brand.

So I'm doing the research. You know what I know.

I guess if submersible plus target display is not a combination I'll find, what do you recommend as a quality machine that does reasonably identify targets?

I am thinking the Garrett 2500 Pro.

I am thinking Fisher F5, any good used Fisher CZ- 5, CZ-3D, CZ-6a, CZ-7a, CZ-70 or a CoinStrike.
Good American quality from a well respected name with excellent resale value and well within your budget.

Good luck on your quest for the holy grail and HH (Happy Hunting).

Here's my thought. How about a garrett Ace 250 for land( about $225 brand new) and a water machine like a Beach hunter ID that has tones to ID targets( used one down below for $500)or a fisher 1280. Then he would have the best of both worlds for less the a grand! Just my opinion.

but you could probably get the ace 250 and whites BHID both new for under $1000. Contact one of the forum dealers here and I bet one would help you out!

These are great ideas guys, thank you!

I haven't researched everything mentioned yet.

Here's what I have so far on the Coin Display and Waterproof but not Submersible short list:

Fisher F5
Fisher CZ-3D
Garrett GTI 2500 Pro

The target display will win out over the submersible -- if he really loves the sport I will buy him a submersible down the road.

This conversation is VERY HELPFUL! More thoughts on target display with waterproof coil machines?

p.s. I just read some reviews about the CZ-3D that it's great at older coins rather than newer ones. That fits the bill! I know he'd rather find one 1900 dime than a hundred 2009 dimes. But it doesn't seem to be very popular. None for sale here. Should I be concerned?

Teknetics T2 which I use for land and I have used some water machines and i like the PI units but they are not for the faint of heart you dig everything... I have use the detector pro wader and the diver and both are well built mds..light and water proof....the next thing to consider with water mds is weighted or non weighted coils. If you are interested I have a detector new style diver for sale...reason for selling it is it is not a PI md it does discriminate and is water proof ...I have been digging 24 yrs and these are my choices

Thanks guys. I think we're going to forego the submersible in favor of a waterproof coil.
Settling in on ACE 250, GTI 250, CZ-3D (perfect but can't get wet even in the rain so not perfect :)
