Wrong vdi numbers with new v3i

Hi all for some reason my v3i is reading vdi numbers wrong I will get a good repeatable quarter signal dig three in find a penny I tried rebalance many times any ideas?
Oh I'm running the standard c& j program rx is all I have changed and I changed pinpoint voc to on and raised disc sen higher in pinpoint to 100 because had problems pinpointing .

Bad G/B will cause this. Disc sensitivity is probably too high, not many people can run 100. This sure will cause bad VDI, if too high. All metal is what you adjust for pin pointing. Most people would have trouble pinpointing at 100 except on very deep targets. Your pattern gets wider.

Did you ever have the right VDI? Try Rx 9, all metal 65, Disc 85 to see if the VDI read right.

Your holding it by the wrong end!

Just kidding. Sounds like a ground balance issue as mentioned above.

Ok I will try that tomorrow thanks !

To do a good G/B first find a clean spot of ground. If you pull the trigger (pin point) you should here no sound or might even be able to get a zero depth reading if the spot is clean. Pull the trigger then press and hold the enter button. Now pump the coil from 1" to 12" as many times as it takes to go quiet. Don't believe the pump 4 times instructions and don't have the coil touch the ground. A good G/B affects depth and VDI accuracy.

After releasing the enter and then trigger test the G/B. Hold the coil above the ground and pull the trigger now lift the coil, the detector should stay quiet. After a short time of hunting retest.

Yes that is how I do it I think the problem is in my setting as you stated earlier thank you for your help .

My vdi was off by a quarter today, it showed 87 (50cents) but I got 3 quarters,,, another hit showed a 86 and got 3 quarters and a nickle.
You mentioned raising your disc sens higher in pinpoint, Do you mean you raised your all metal sens which is your PP mode hgher?
What kind of PP problem do you have? Not getting a signal in PP or not hitting on target? Raising the disc up to 100 sounds pretty extreme.

I would like to thank you for all your help I did the change settings that you suggested still had the problem so I did a restore to c& j program and started from scratch seemed to do the trick I still don't know what I set wrong the first time but the thing was crazy but I do want to thank you and all the forum members for your help without this forum I think there would be tons of used v3s on the market I was just getting a handle on the v3 and thought the v3i would be the same but its not really its like a whole new machine to learn again the Rx seems to be able to run at higher # without all the noise that the v3 had. Plus a lot of the emi interference has all but gone all in all I think the i upgrade is a must .

I'm glad you are operating again. You changed something you should not have but without the machine in hand there is no way to know what it was. I really appreciate that you posted it operator error and not the V. Too many times this is not done and leads people to believe the V is having problems that don't exist. I just sold a V3 and let me tell you there are not many out there to find. Rob
