Wrapping my head around Iron Mask..

This is my brain after reading Andy's section on Iron Mask...

Would any of you experienced members care to give me an example of how you personally use Iron Mask, and how it has worked for you in the field ?

Thanks..Dave

Just think of IM as having a dial much like the old detectors. You used to turn the dial just above foil or past pull tabs. Its that simple.... its just disc. Unlike patterns... coins, jewerly, nails... those are NOTCHs.

I use mine mostly as a "filter". Now what I personally mean by this is that I set it to the precise setting which I feel will still let any and all coins come through while "filtering" out iron.

I am able to pick out coins in iron because I can still get a "silver warble" to cry through the nulling on the SE if I am creeping slow enough.

It isn't foolproof but with some experience it works quite well.

I use it wide open (AM) ferrous sounds no threshold tone because there is no nulling.

Ignore the low tones dig the high tones.

Works ok for me in the UK.

Also I would download the Explorer SE Emulator (a great learning tool)

Take care McDave.

Les.

Thanks Les.

And I do have the SE Emulator downloaded. I think it's a "must have" for anyone who is buying one. I can now easily navigate through my detector menu and I don't even have it in my hands yet. How lucky we are that someone took the time to create it.

Tried googling the emulator to no avail...Anyone have a link to the emulator?

Here you go...

Hey Les... why does the MINELAB OWNERS site only have the Etrac emulator now? The BEEPs site also has a better list of coins that can be downloaded... a must have.

Question. I just downloaded the zip file for more US coins. Now that this file is in My Documents, how do I move it to the Emulator?

First off..........find the file in "My Documents". It will be displayed on the right side of the screen. Next, find the
program and expand it. You will see in the "drop down" a folder called "datazips". Just drag and drop the
file from the right side to "datazips" and you're all done.
