WPA Tags and Two Wheaties

Went to a 1930's home site back in the woods on my own property. I've hunted it at least 8 times already. but today i thought i'd try digging those multiple tones and tid's i read about on here. It really has me confused, but i'm guessing when the detector shows a bunch of iron signals and then momentarily shows a coin signal, it means there is a coin in there between the junk. But it's not always so, sometimes i dig and dig and nothing.

Anyway, i found two wheaties, both 1930 and they did show multiple readings, 46, 18, 34,30, 24, and some iron. There's a lot of iron buried deep. The coins weren't really too deep, about 4 inches. Then i found a WPA tag identical to one i'd found before. I think it means Work Program America, back during Roosevelt. Someone must have worked for them and it was an id tag or maybe a tool tag of some sort. If the guy lost one and had to ask for another one, maybe that's why there was two of them.

The WPA tags would be a nice addition to anyone's collection. I have not actually seen one before and it is a great historical find.

Thanks Dlozierp, good to know. I like that term, historical. :)

way to go on digging those wheats with signals that they gave you, the more times you dig a good target that came from a jumpy signal the harder it is to ignore these signals. I'd agree those are tool tags

Got two more wheats out of the this same site today, one is 1941 and the other date is illegible 19?1. Was using a 5 x 10 DD gold prospecting coil which i was told would be better than the stock coil. I'll probably get the new 6" DD either tomorrow or the next day, really looking forward to it, and will go over the area again with that.

That makes a total of 5 wheats from that site, so i must be getting better. But, there's got to be some other coins there, these people were real sloppy with their trash so they must have lost some other coins. Will update if i get anything else and if the 6" dd is an improvement here.

Looks like your doing great! That 5x10 is my favorite. Now that I cobbled the ears back together It's going to be :detecting: again.
