Went for a real short hunt today bout an hour and a half, there are some railroad track just on the edge of town. Dug up a few interesting things that most people call leaveright as in leave it right where you find it, one looked like a train coupler or some sort of train tool. Other pieces looked like chunks from a cast iron stove or something. I only found 2 pennies. But the best find was a large brass button it is little bigger than a quarter but just smaller than a fifty cent piece. I just finished researching it on google and it is for WWI around 1918 it was used on the heavy wool coats worn by the army. What an amazing hobby we have where you can find items so rich in history, and if all of you are like me my thoughts go places like, I wonder who wore this jacket with this button attached to it. Was it a war hero? A soldier that was wounded in battle coming home from fighting for this great country of ours. Or maybe it was some officer passing through or leaving to join his comrades in arms. WHAT EVER THE CASE MAYBE I have a piece of history that I will hold in high esteem just because of what it represents, the sacrifices that were made on all our behalves. Thanks to all who read this........................Keep Looking Down there is such cool stuff under our feet just waiting to tell its story!

Good for you with that button! I may need to take a vacation trip to detect the RR right of way where I used to walk and look for spikes when I was a kid. I understand there are several miles, including one stop area (not a full fledged station though) that have not yet been leveled by new development.

cool find with the button. Can you post a pic of it?

I know what you mean Phinbolt,

I have three hand made chisels that they used to split logs.

I know they came from an early part of the white man's

history in central Arkansas.

They would not mean much to someone else, but to me,

they are a precious part of our history.
