In 1957( I was 15) I was riding a city bus, arm resting on window sill. The bus scraped a telephone pole, my arm got damaged some, and my coat sleeve almost got ripped off... Now this was a state of the art black leather jacket with seven zippers and even a place in the back to put your motor cycle hat.. I didn't have a motor cycle, but I had the jacket and boots,,,,, and I was so cool :)
Notice the price of jacket and my step dad's daily wage. He bought me a 49 chevy convertible . It only cost $ 150,, and most of the rest went to insurance...even then, insurance cost more than a car.

The 49-50 Mercurys with the chopped tops and lowered to almost ground level were classic custom rods..
