Howdy all,
I went back to a local park that my research tells me was the sight of an old military camp (1860,s),i was happy picking up some old and newer coins along with a few bits of jewellery. In one area I was getting a lot of deep iron falsing, that told me there had been an old building of some sort,so I kept on, and eventually got a good 12-47 signal, at about 8" out popped an old half crown, unfortunatly the condition is very poor with none of the embossing able to be read,A Google search soon told me it is King George 1V,minted in 1824,this is very old for New Zealand and would have arrived with the first settlers or soldiers the old lead shot was found within a metre of the coin and at the same depth,I bet they could tell an interesting story.......KJ
