Would'nt it be nice to go a step further...

I'm a new Exp/xs owner, and am wondering how to complicate this marvel one step further. Would'nt it be nice to have a serial or usb or whatever pc/interface with unit. I'm probally just blowing smoke, but the chipset could be enhanced to allow the S1 thur S6 filter to trade buddy programs. This may seem as a lazy way to get "in-touch" with the Exp/xs, but it also can open doors to more groups using the Exp/xs. It could also progress to firmware upgrades on the entire unit. Who cares how much extra it would cost! I don't think any of us purchased a Exp/xs because we needed it. We bought in to this technology because we crave the best. There is no reply that will hurt my feelings, so let my here your thoughts on this idea!

I completely agree with this. Ric mentioned this once before and some believe the plugged port, near the current headphone jack, may have been used for something similar in the prototype.
In the meantime maybe we can convince Guv to add a link to share other user's screens and setups, similar to the DFX group. The experts might not have much need for it, but us newbies surely would.

It seems as if that is the logical progression and
someone at Minelab has probably kicked it around. I'd be very interested. Many of the other "high end" electronic devices have been hacked and modified. My background is not that extensive or i might bust one open and give it a go....

All PDA (personal data assistants) currently support "beaming" between devices via an infrared port. This would be the way to go, no special cables to carry, just beam settings back and forth. Plus...it would be possible then to beam to other devices like a Palm or Pocket PC.
Consider this, you are planning a trip to Florida and want a good beach program for that area. You go to a web site, download some beach programs to your pocket pc and beam them to your Explorer in the field.
The Explorer only stores 6 desc pattners and 2 user settings sets but I could probably store hundreds on a single CF (compact flash) memory card on my pocket pc and have them with me in the field.
Best WOT programs, best Joey programs, best ultra-trash heap iron infested junk yard programs, yes the pro's can do it all in iron mask but I like desc. So I miss some stuff, its a lot more relaxing in desc, plus its "fun" messing around with all the settings.
If they add the IR port, I'll write the apps for the pocket pc and give them away free!

Hello,
I spoke to a tech at Minelab a few months ago and one of the things that he mentioned to me, apart from what they were doing with the returned control box housings from SOME of the Explorers, was the existance of an rs232 port(serial connection like your PC)within the conrol box.
I have noticed this connection and I am sure it is the one he told me was for the purpose of allowing:
Technical diagnosis through to a special set of parrameters and programs on a P.C.
Re-programming and assement of an Explorer when and if it ever needs an adjstment to its' onboard "EPPROM" control. So Explorer is programable beyond what we, as the consumers can presently get to.
The end user was never given the option to control at this level because of the amount of "stuff-ups" that might have occured if they where allowed to access through to this point of the rs232.
I got the impression that there were a whole heap of vigourous "simulated" conditions on the repair bench that are thrown at the Explorer,if and when a unit fails in the electronics control box.
That card or memmory stick idea sounds good to me.
