Would your X-T often tip over?

Was never quite sure why my X-T 70 would often tip over whenever I laid it down on the ground last summer. Today while making a snap-on stand to mount in place of the old stand, I FINALLY noticed that the pin holes on the upper shaft were drilled off center causing the control box to be tilted to the left. On top of that the lower shaft yoke was also mounted off center with the top of it also leaning to the left. Between the two both being off-center toward the same direction, I now suspect they were causing my detector to be top heavy to the left, allowing it to often fall over whenever it was laid down on even slightly uneven ground. As a result when I mounted my new PVC snap-on stand, I made sure the control box is now aligned perfectly vertical when up on its stand and because the new stand is almost two inches wider than the old one, I suspect the X-T 70 will be rarely falling over from now on. Sometimes it pays to have cabin fever...

I often see people posting about their x-70 falling over, but mine never does it unless I am on a hill and I set it on the hill sideways..lol

That's why I always have my environmental cover on...

Gday,

I think the Xterra tips over realitively easily due to it's high centre of balance... the tall control pad with batteries in combination with the narrow stand.
err, physics ? - kinda like a tall 4WD or RV will tip over easier than a sports car which is low and wide.

Its the small price you pay for having an comfortable, ergonomic detector I reckon.
Just gotta be a bit more careful when you put it down compared to some other detectors.
I flatten my coil onto the ground so all the coil is on the surface then place the back down onto its stand and it works for me.
happy swinging.

This concern has been addressed before. But, I had the same problem and just used an arm rest from a White's XLT and no more tip overs.

I used a heat gun and softened up the stand. Then I flatened it out a bunch so that it has a wider stance. That helped a bunch.

I did the same thing. It was either that or have my wife hold the XT while I dug, yeah, like that was going to happen.....

Im left handed and I hold the detector in my left hand and dig with my right hand.I then put the gold in my bag with my right hand and keep the X-70 under control with my left hand.H.H,:clapping:

I used to have this issue. I got the Jeff Herke X-Terra mount. I really like it and having the headphones plug in the end sure make it nice, Beale.

Thanks Beale, this is what was said on that thread you posted above:

"I contacted jeff herke and asked him to put me something together that would work on my xterra 70. It has solved the tipping over problem and the headphone jack is just perfect keeping the wire 'behind' you all the time. Its all aluminum and sturdy. I really like it , thanks jeff."

Also, I cannot find that link, if someone has it please post it, about instructions for making about a 4" wide x 7" piece of rubber(like heavy tire tube rubber) underneath the stock stand, to stop it from tipping over. I think with the thumb screw through it.

Thanks guys for all the comments and suggestions, they were appreciated. Did take the X-T 70 ( 6"DD HF coil) out for the first time yesterday to a camp site behind the house which is the trashiest site I've ever come across and only found a few pennies as there was hardly any snow free ground available to hunt. At least my new PVC stand and the 6" DD HF coil worked just fine, while the X-T 70 never came close to falling over.
