Would you dig an 11-18/20 signal ?

Went back to a spot I've pounded. I have to admit I haven't dug all of the junk signals or signals that usually only produce junk/tabs. The ground is getting dry here again and in this spot my CTX was running qt 31 in auto sensivity for the longest time in this nail pit. I had actually been in an adjacent field of this old home site and found one button, one small pistol ball, and one chewed up portion of a memorial cent and one small item identity unknown. So the sun started getting pretty hot so I ventured back in the shady home site. Didn't really expect to find anyhting. It has already given up 10 silver dimes(1 seated), 2 nickels(1 war
and 1 liberty) , 1 silver wedding band, junk metal locket, womans watch face with crystal still intact, and 30 wheat pennies. I struck a signal that read 11-18 one way and 11-20 the other and appeared to be around 5 inches. So I stuck the shovel in and turned over the plug and scanned with the detector and got a screaming 12-45. Ran the pinpointer in a little ways and out jumped a 1917 merc dime. Still curious on what I initially heard and ran the pinpointer deeper into the plug and walla a 39 nickel. I didn't find anymore targets/iron in the plug. Just goes to show you how the silver can be mask and digging a junk signal can have its benefits.

Would not have dug it. The depth was only reason to dig it. Pull tabs usually dont sink that low in my soil.

Congrats!!

I dug a 12-18 the other day at an old house site and it was a tower button. I am just learning and didn't know any better on the numbers but the signal was solid. So I guess a blind hog can find an acorn when they don't know any better.

Good finds and thanks for the information

really have learned that it is wise to dig ALL solid signals in a area thought to have old targets there (like an 1800's house),,,, around the trash can in a park,,,, mayby not,,,,, congrats on your hunt !!!

I pulled a 2 war nickels out with an Etrac that if memory serves were 12-19 hunting in 2 tone ferrous about 2 months ago... I never looked on a chart to see where they were supposed to fall but that was where they were on the same day... Was hunting a on old courthouse and they were over 5 inches deep so I dug them...

G..

Just looked at the CTX chart... Says 12-14. Not sure why I got those numbers but I did and I'll dig them again at that courthouse... :)

My advice to anyone here if your swinging and not digging your not finding. The only way to find something is to Dig .Would i have dug that # no because i dig all 12.10 to12.15 and 12.30 to 12.50 i can't dig everything but as you can see you were rewarded for digging good find Squirrel 1 .sube

I must admit, I have never had junk mask a silver coin down that low.

Digging that pull tab signal is site dependant for me. At my CW sites where there is little modern trash, I will always dig 12-18/20. In most other sites, I will only dig if the depth is 5 inches or more (mostly more).

There is one spot that I hunt that was a CW skirmish ground and then later a public park. a 12-20 can be a small round ball, or more often, a pull tab. I dig based on depth at this place.

Of course, we all should always dig 12-18/20 signals because they could be gold. The folks who dig the most pull tabs also find the most gold.

If it is a solid AUDIO hit it is hard for me to pass on anything but iron. I always wonder what it could have been so I dig them.

I never would dig those prior to my ctx my war nickels have hit 11 18 and 11 20 so i dig almost all repeatable in that range normal nickel and all the other coin border ranges. On home sites I dig ll repeatable because of gold falling all over the scale a park or school way more selective for me.
