Hi all just got done with 2 days hunting totaling 11 hours. Dug over 5 pounds of trash mostly iron and got 30 coins. I am wondering if it is worth it??? Would you please tell me....Z

I was fealing like that 25 years ago.

I quit the hobby. It just wasn't worth it to replace my broken detector.

24 years later I got the bug.

Got a crummy one. Didn't work right.

Got another crummy one. Didn't work right.

Got a good one. Went fine til I got sick.

Now I am just waiting until I can hunt again.

You got some nice coins. I never get that.

I'll be happy with trash.

HH,

hey z! yes i would, and have, many a times! wow, really nice silver and wheats there, and the '07 nickel! there's gonna be some jealous souls on here tonite. you are definetly on a hot spot my friend. i can't remember the last time i found a walking liberty half, but did find a 1909 last week. has your heart slowed down yet? great job, you do our hobby great credit removing the trash. thanks, and hh,

Grayghost couldn't sleep all night thinking what did I miss and will someone get there before I get back tomorrow. I had found the V nickel and walking half and the 44 quarter and dime yesterday. The other coins I found today. The rest of the 30 coins where from 1961 to 1981. Pennies nickels and one other dime. The V nickel still has crud on the back that I am trying to soak off.
I am exhausted don't think I will go out tomorrow? I am getting a little old for 5 and 6 hour hunts in a roll. Thanks for replies...Z

I have been there and done that many times, and will do it in the future.
Look at that walking liberty , WOW , you found really nice coins .
Did you have a nice time ? If you did , It was worth it

i have had times when one coin has made my day,i look at each hunt as an adventure and some days are better than others thats for sure, emptying my trash 3 and 4 times just so i can stand straight! "Z" 30 coins in 11 hours aint a bad catch at all,the trash is just a given but there is really no telling what you may be missing if you don't dig.
sure would be nice to have a turn of events though,i'd love to come off my oldest feild carrying 5lb of coin to 30 peices of trash!!!!!!!! HH!

If I thought of it in terms of ,"Is it worth the time ?",I would not have continued to detect for the past 33 years.Metal detecting is a passion/way-of-life.Does not make any difference wheather I find anything of value,it's in the ' hunt'.My feeling is it is in the excitment of ,"What will the next target be,a coin,an old artifact from long ago,a ring,an old watch, etc.""What neat thing am I going to dig up next." Sure there is a LOT of worthless stuff buried in the ground that will be dug,but that goes along with the territory.Just dig it and dispose of the junk properly.

Good finds, next time you go over the area less trash and even better coins.By the way, what metal detector did you use.I'm willing and do dig a lot of trash to find the better coins. My guess your not a clad hunter neither am I.

Thank you for all the replies.
Your darn tooting it is worth it. 30 coins is a lot for me in two days let alone some old ones.
I retired from the bus company 8 years ago and have not done much exercise in the last few decades. Metal detecting is almost my life now. My wife helps me count, clean and evaluate the finds. She always wants to know what I have found for the day even if it is one penny. She sure likes the rings and watches I have found and get excited and says you know someone I know would just love to have this item. We always work our schedule around so I can get in a few days out of the week in for hunting.
I have been thinking of getting another detector (the 5th one since starting in 2006). Oh I am using a Tesoro DeLeon and a Whites XLT. I keep the DeLeon in the trunk and hunt when my wife goes shopping, getting hair done, or coming from my part time job. I use the XLT on the beach.
I love the hunt.
Thanks for reading and being so kind... Jer

Just for the hell of it I am going out for four hrs and dig evey signal i get. I hunt for coins and if it isint a coin sig. I dont dig it. HH digadime69

I would, I mean I do, but I never find over 10 old coins.

Thanks for replies again:
I was using my DeLeon for this hunt because of lightness and the length of time the hunt was taking.

This is manly for digadime69.
I have been using TID machines since coming back to detecting but I notice that they are not always reliable. I have many times let the detector decide if I should dig or not. I dug everything because the readings I was getting with the detector were all over the place. The iron was so thick I was forced to dig or go past not really knowing what was there if anything. I think if you dig most all targets you will end up with more stuff, bad and good. I was just digging all, knowing even the broken and scratchy hits were probably foil or junk.

I am thinking of getting rid of my TID machines and getting only the so called beep and dig detectors to really see what I have been missing.

This is where I am at right now in my life and the change maybe worth the extra junk...lol.
Thanks for reading.. Z.

Hey Z , I know what you mean about the TID detectors, this time around
I have dug more trash than ever before . Looking in my bag and seeing all the
pulltabs and beer caps I have walked away from many good hits, and I know
this because I've watched (silently of course) my hunting partner go over the
same spot of ground I just left and pull out a ring  I have been thinking
about going back to tone only detectors myself . I won a DetectorPro Headhunter
Pirate Fri. No TID , so I'll see if that improves my junk to goodie ratio

As others have said, if your finding "anything" and enjoying it, it sure has heck is worth it!!:clapping:
Sounds like you got the "addiction" pretty good like lots of us here, keep swinging man!! :detecting:

Absolutely!!! That's a great haul. It is tougher than ever to find nice silver. Your ratio is well above the average. I have hunted many times for over 10 hours straight, and have come home with less than that. Believe it or not, you would be amazed how much is still in the same spots you pulled all that junk from. On a different day, under different soil moisture conditions, and slowing down your pace, there will be targets that appear that you swear were not there before. Sometimes removing a lot of junk helps clear up the deep signals. A little moisture in the soil never hurt either. Great finds and a great time I'm sure. Congrats!! HH.

Day 3.
Went out for 2 hours and had a pouch full of iron and other junk. I got 2 coins this time,1945 quarter and a 1964 penny. Same spot.
Please, Please.... I only put this stuff on here because..... I want to show every one a site is never hunted out. I have no secret place. I have no virgin territory. Hundreds of detectors have detected this site for decades. Yet I found this stuff. I am not any better or smarter than all those guys. I stumble around just like the rest of you do. But I have one very important difference. I don't believe in LACK. I don't believe: old coins are hard to find, this site is hunted out, secret or virgin sites, deeper is going to get it, etc.. I could go on and on. What I think happened is I found a coin spill from one person. Look almost all the coins are from the 40's, all but the 07 coin. What happened is a tractor came in and pushed the sand around and I guess I was the only one dumb enough to go down and detect a beach that is all detected out. I am not telling you to be dumb but, maybe it helps some times to be a dumb stumbler like me. I really do believe in Pleasant Surprises. I go out to enjoy the hunt.. and that is it, nothing else. Thanks for reading and there are no hunted out sites... Z
