As I was walking through the harbour the other day with my SE Pro to start detecting a man came over and asked if that was a detector I was carrying, I said yes it was and he asked if I would mind looking for a wedding band they had lost a couple of days before. We went to the area which is highly infected with lots of scrap metals of all types, I was getting loads of signals but no Gold.
After about 15 mins I overheard one of the women in the party say something and as I don't wear headphones because of my very sensitive hearing I heard her say, (I expect he will say that he cannot find it and come back later to get it and sell it) needless to say that I gave up trying to find the item but as the man gave me his phone number I shall have another go later in the week.
How is that as a result of trying to help people.
As the saying goes. A good deed never goes un punished.

That's a shame - better luck on the return trip. Did you let her know that you heard the comment? Was this at a beach area?

Sad and funny ar the same time...they asked you for help in the first place. I hope you find the ring and charge him a little extra because you realy don't know if he actually lost it.

I always ask for a description and or is it engraved. You never know what you are going to find.

I find that many people are not equipped with the proper filters for things that exit their port hole. My 10 year old boy is one of them,he just says things bluntly and honestly because he's ten. A stranger of adult age who is seeking a favor is expected to behave in a manner that reflects that. When they don't,you hit them with what I like to call "stupidity tax". You'll still do what they want but now there's a price, and if there was a price before, now it's higher. When people do dumb things,it costs them resources. Manners are a resource when applied correctly. If not, cash works. Many folks simply have more money than brains, nothing wrong with cashing their check. Don't take it personally, though it's hard not to. You did nothing wrong here.

I like the way you think!

I hope they thanked you for trying. It would be nice to rebuke her with ring in hand.. Dont let someones cynical verbal blunder deter you from performing in the future. Mike
