I have been toying with an idea planting a coin everywhere I detect. Place the coin at leat 4 inch in the ground. Even thought about putting a website on the coin and when you find it, log on and register it.

WHY????? Maybe make a detectorist's day Coins I would use maybe old nickles. I can get a bag of early 1900s nickels, about a 100. Or pick up half dollars or silver quarters.

Sounds like fun, along the lines of "geo-caching"

That sounds almost exactly like geocaching. You could do the same thing with geo-coins but that could get pretty expensive real fast.

Someone I know named Penny that does geocaching leaves a 1971 penny (the year of her birth) at every site...

I thought about making it worth while maybe 50 piece and not tell anyone. Course 20 years later I may get a call...... Or I could post the general information for folks on this forum and if they are in the area they can stop by.

No but it would be great to tell people to go there with there metal detectors and maybe this site will get a new member!
