Would the MXT Pro be a good choice

I have an Xterra 705 which I feel is a very good detector. Looking for a machine to complement it. My choices are the MXT Pro or Safari. Don't want a complex menu driven machine that's why these are my 2 choices. Would it be better to complement the Xterra with a White's for something different or go with another Minelab like the Safari. Don't really care for the flutey Safari sounds but it does have the FBS technology although I am mainly a parks and yards coinshooter. Your thoughts please.

I don't own any Minelabs, but don't feel you could go wrong with the MXT PRO.

I'm new to the MD world and did about a month of research before I bought one. It was down to the safari or the MXT pro. I went with the pro and I do not regret it one bit. I was worried I wouldn't be able to understand it having never used an MD before. It is VERY simple to use, and very water resistant. I also prefer knobs over buttons and beeps.

Hmmm, about the SAME detector , just 2 different companies version. If I was you I would find a Good used Exploere and put all the others away while you learn it.
I found more silver with that machine than anything else I have used in the last 11 years - BY FAR. I would go with an Original or Ex II

Jackaroo is right on the money. Both are in the same performance and price category. I will say Whites is a much better built detector. R.L.

If he is after silver in the Parks and school yards NOTHING will beat an Explorer. Once you learn that machine you will consistantly find the deep silver. MXT and Xterra. I own a modified MXT and LOVE IT but not for hunting deep low trash parks and school yards.

[size=large]it boils down to personal choice. i have an explorer SE pro. just bought a mxt pro. the ex SE is up for sale. no more flutes and i had no problem finding my 54' half 8 inches down with the mxt. i just like the simplicity of use of the pro. that's me.
and this is a Freudian slip on your part. you know deep in your mind the mxt is the right choice. :whites:

I've never used the minelab, but have been very well served with the MXT. Go with the Pro.

I have never ran the minelab but own an MXT with an SEF 10x12 coil and pro gold headphones. Great machine, but, lately I have been using my Garett AT-PRO and the MXT has been left in the garage. NOT trying to start anything or get the sensative types fired up. Just another option is all.

[size=large]my hunting buddie runs a AT PRO and loves it. but he does covet my MXT PRO. and until garrett straightens out all the problems with the at pro i wouldn't go near one. i'll learn my hb's machine and if it has to go back i'll at least have my whites. for now he does do better'n me but he digs much more than i do. i'm the turtle he's the rabbit.

I've owned and hunted with Minelab Sovereign GT,2 diferent Explorer SE with the Pro coils and an Etrac.Didn't like any of them.Did I find old coins with them, yes.I like the MXT PRO 100 times better than the ML's.Easier to setup, plenty deep, better balanced and easier to understand tones. The MXT PRO hits hard on coins and my gold jewelry finds went way up over the Minelabs.Once you learn the MXT you'll not use your other detector.Been there, done that.Bill

Widebody, I hear you about the trouble the PRO was having. I sent mine back for a new coil. Works well now. I dig alot more with my PRO. At first I thought it was just my exuberance with a new machine but, no, it just finds more , for me. I gridded a small park with my MXT last year. This year i ran the same grid and came up with easily twice the junk along with twice the clad coins, these coins where down 1-5 inches so they where not dropped after the mxt run.. And two rings. I'm not bashing the MXT cause I own and use one. I just truly believe I'm finding More with the PRO.

[size=large]i'm just learning my mxt pro. my hunting buddy is just learning his at pro. i must run my machine with the gain maxed out and in relic to keep in range with my buddy. the at pro is proving to be a very good machine when the owner can get it back and use it. these aren't problems they had. they're problems they have. in my opinion the two are well matched with the garret having the plus of under water use for those whose machines don't leak. i prefer the whites i have because of what's already been mentioned. well balanced and i like the sounding off on targets also. much more than the fluty sounds. and it is so much easier to learn and use than the others. maybe it's because i'm an old jarhead, :usmc:,who needs things simple.

It's my understanding the issues are resolved with the At-PRO. The new machines out after March are not having any issues. When my buddy bought his he thought it was a new one but actually was from the shelf. Anyway, I am heading towards getting another AT and selling my MXT. I'll use my two machines side by side for another month or so and make my decision then. Another factor I haven't mentioned is the Garrett pro pointer. Far better than my bullseyeII pointer but makes my MXT go crazy when i fire it up near it. I lost alot of hunting time last year due to the rain here in Alaska. Shouldn't be a problem this summer with the AT being waterproof. Tough decision because the MXT is a great machine.

[size=large]gregp, i'm with ya on the probe. i still use my garrett probe when my dx-1 just can't find the target. my mxt doesn't like it either.
i been reading the at pro forum and the leaking problems are just recently surfacing.have to say these are from those who swim with their machines. i agree the at pro may do you better in alaska. it rains too much here in s.w. washington so i have a raincoat for my mxt. i don't go out much when it rains but don't mind the drizzels. i hope you'll be happy with what ever machine you land on. i do have an advantage in that my buddy and i compare target hits. we compare all our indicators and decide what the mean to us then dig. the target of course tells us if we were correct or not. very good learning enviorment. we both learned we don't like the minelab. we couldn't stand the slow pace.
