Would like some info. on the 1280x, Has anyone used one & how did you like it. Thanks for any help

I had one for plenty of years. It is a great machine and if you get it I would recomend only a 10.5 inch coil. It goes deeper. HOWEVER, I used it in freshwater lakes. If your going to use it for salt water I can't give any opinion.

Only downfall is one beep for everything. I kind of like the 3 tone the CZ-20 has. I got spoiled with it.

Believe it or not , I found one in the dumpster at work yesterday, with batts. & it works perfect, just cleaned it up abit. Has 8" coil. Never used a Fisher B4, I use minelabs & whites. And yes I will use it in salt water. Thanks for your help.

If it was in the dumpster it is because it was used in salt water!!

Really I don't think it will work well in salt water. I don't believe the circuit was made for it. I actually don't remember though so hopefully somebody else will speak up.

But finding it in a dumpster??? You can't go wrong with the money you can make selling it!!

I used one in salt water and hated it. It chattered constantly. When the CZ-20 came out I bought one right away,... Best decision I ever made. The 1280 is OK for fresh water I guess but if you're going to hunt salt water seriously then get a CZ, a White's, or Minelab. All are far superior in salt water.

I have one and I like it a lot. Very deep, hits hard and has a great discrimination circuit. Use it for a little bit and you'll hear those sweet deep "whisper signals". It works great in freshwater and on land. It couldn't be easier to use either just turn it on and go.

On the beach you're going to want to be in or out of the water, try to stay away from where the little waves wash over the coil.

The key to this machine in any condition is the Sensitivity setting, think of it as the ground balance. wherever you are whether it's in the saltwater, wet sand, dry sand, dirt park or fresh water, turn the sens up as much as you can without the machine chattering/ falsing. I will check the setting several times during my hunt as the conditions change.

An example of the sens settings by me here in NY are 9-10 on dry land, dry sand. 8-10 on the wet sand and anywhere from 5 to 8 in saltwater, Jersey beaches have some tough mineralization so the numbers there are 5-7. The NY beaches are a little better so I can get 6-8 in the saltwater. I usually never turn the discrimination past 3 or 4 when I'm in a trashy area, I've hunted some clean Jersey Shore beaches with the disc at 0.

Very easy to pinpoint with using the X method once you've found a target.

Good Luck!

Glenn

I purchased my first one in 1990 and second later in decade. I have had outstanding results finding several hundred pieces of gold and silver jewelry as well as 3000 plus coins on Florida beaches. I now use the CZ 20 for all my water and most of my land hunting. The only drawback I found in the 1280 is false signals in depressions and holes in the sand when working salt water beaches. My best water find with the 1280 is an authentic counterfiet 1793 eight reale coin made of pewter and valued at over $300 to counterfiet collectors. Read the story and see the picture on my blog under Twenty Best Finds or the Story A Coin could Tell. Here's to "diggin it"! Larry (bjsone)

Thanks for setting me straight. For some reason I thought I read it didn't work well in salt water. Must have been in my head!! Since I have never hunted salt water I just didn't know.
