With all the hoopla about GB in the last few days. How many of you changed your setting on GB to the "unchecked" or "checked" mode, and, do you feel it made a difference in your finds? Also, do you think your silver count/deeper target is up because of the change in GB mode or are you just getting your coil over more silver or deeper targets?
I had mind checked from the beginning with GC here in So. Cal., and, in the last few days, have unchecked mine and gone to FC condition. I haven't noticed much of a difference. The parks I hunt seem to like GC condition better with GB checked. I seem to get a better signal, less noisy. I find less than half a dozen silvers a year. And yet, sometimes, I can find a memorial penny or clad dime at 6 to 9 inches.
How say you?

I had mine checked before all this MADNESS, and last couple days have un-checked the box. Now It seems I am getting better signals and a lot less chatter and the good signals are very clear and loud.

Am i missing somthing here? Would you not check the GB enable unless you actually ground balance the machine?
Maybe i misunderstood you guys but your replys seem to indicate that you checked the GB enable but did not ground balance.

Somebody else chime in if I am wrong, but my understanding is....if GB is unchecked/not enabled, FBS does the ground balance automatically

FBS (Full Band Spectrum) simultaneously transmits, receives and analyses a full band of multiple frequencies. This provides the detector

There STILL seems to be confusion

leave the box unchecked if you want the CTX to adjust itself, like us Explorer, Etrac users have enjoyed for years

If you have very ,very, very, very bad mineralized conditions you may want to check the box and do the manual ground balance, the bobbing the coil thing..The confusion seems to be that someone starting calling this manual ground balancing auto ground balancing because the CTX adjusts the balance while bobbing & you don't have to turn a knob or anything like on other detectors...

Almost everyone should leave the check box unchecked and the CTX will do it thing

If you do decide to check the box, you have to do the manual balance, the bobbing thing ....wildherre

I understand the situation with the box unchecked and checked but have to admit I see the confusion. ive always thought if I whated the selected feature I should say so with a check in the box.... probably just me but the way its always been. .. I understand if you want to manually gb to uncheck the box. still confusing my opinion. HH

LOL Johno, now you've got me confused again. I thought if you wanted to "manually GB" you would CHECK the box.

If you want to manually GB then check the box and go through the manual GB proceedure. If you want the detector software to auto GB and to keep adjusting the GB to the optimal setting while you detect then uncheck the box.

Is that your final word Crusty? Doesn't get any plainer than that.

Yup, short and sweet:) Although I can understand how some people have a hard time getting it staright in their heads. There are some things I just can't wrap my head around, according to my wife, but this topic seems straight forward to me.

The box unchecked brought home an 8" deep seated half dime for me last week. And 3 nice silvers since saturday. It was always checked before.

Great topic.

Pretty clear there Crusty.

Actually checking the box and bobbing the coil is letting the CTX automatically set the ground balance. Same procedure used on the 705 to Automatically set GB. If it wasn't automatic then one would need to actually set a GB level which you don't with the CTX.

Unchecking the box sets up a more continuous automatic ground balancing or tracking condition. Again the 705 does the same thing but it is prominently called Tracking.

Very well said parkgt, and you hit the nail on the head.

I like usung the machine for GB. They do a very good job at it. I find no real advantage for the detecting I do.

HUH... Where do you check and un-check GB ? .. < --- NEW BEE.
Hold down the GB button, the bottom centre button, and a window will come up allowing you to check or uncheck GB. If you check the box, then you have to arrow down to the "start GB" box, push on the GB button, do not hold it down for this function, to start the GB. While GB'ing move the coil up and down. Up about a foot and down to about an inch of the ground. Continue this movement until the machine stops making the "wobbling" sound and says GB is complete. Make sure the ground is clear of any targets.
Hope this helps.
