WOT

I would like to hear from some of you who use the WOT with your Explorer...what is the weight relative to the 10 1/2" coil, and how is it to pin point etc...thanks

Weight is about the same and pinpointing is good but different as you use the heel and toe of the coil instead of the center. One thing you will notice about the WOT is that you will usually have to turn down the sense quite a bit to get it to stabilize.

I'm still very up in the air about the WOT on land.. although Ive only had it out 3 times I am finding it falsing on iron way too much, even at low sens levels.. I suppose if you have open sites with little trash or on beach it might be a good thing... Really too early for me to make a firm conclusion from experience on land use.. sure wish more people would post there thoughts on it how its doing on land... maybe no good talk means bad news?

I have only used it about 3 times so I am far from an expert. I was with Darrell and the Guv when they were testing it in St. Louisa few weeks ago as well. My impression so far is that it seems to have a slight advantage for coins on edge because of the greater surface area it covers. But as far as depth or discrimination I really haven't seen it do anything on land that the 10.5 inch coil couldn't do. from some of the other posts that I have read it does seem to really come into it's own on the beaches though. But like you the jury is still out for me and I hope to see more posts so I can learn more about the WOT and what it can and cannot do.

I have been using the WOT in an 80 acre field find ing civil war bullets (iron & lead). Depth appears to be about the same as the 10.5 coil. Its harder for me to tell good iron from bad with the wot. I sometimes use the 10.5 inch coil for finding iron shot and less falsing. However, when you need to cover lots of ground its hard to beat. Gary

Thanks again...It's great to hear different opinions & experiences.

like gary said the WOT is a great coil for open fields and farms where theres not too much trash. taking it to local parks will just drive you crazy. now taking it to the beach where you want to cover lots of ground and your digging everything now that what the WOTS made for. my opinion.

I`ve used the WOT a number of times on the beach where I think it will excell, mainly for the coverage. The weight is no worse than the stock 10.5.But you do have to extend the shaft a bit to keep from kicking the coil.Naturally pinpointing is no problem when using a sand scoop and the sensitivity on very small items will surprise you.I have to drop the sensitivity to around 15 to stablize it and the depth so far is about the same as the 10.5.(which is still good).I havent been amazed yet by any real`DEEP` finds. Its definately a beach coil!I think anyway..Ralph

I tested mine quite a bit today and found that the depth was only slightly better than the 10.5 inch coil regardless of the fantastic depths people are reporting. I kept switching back and forth to my regular coil on the same target so I know it's not way superior to the 10.5 inch. It does cover more ground (not at the deeper depths though, only relatively near the surface) which is it's main strength. Mine pinpointed dead center today which is odd since I hear others say it doesn't.
