WOT for finding DEEP iron...

When searching for civil war huts one of the main ways to find them is to listen for deep iron that was left on the floor of the dug in hut. I would like some opinions on how the WOT would work on my Explorer XS for this and how you think it should be setup. I have my idea but would like to hear from others. The ground itself is low minerilization on the site I'm looking at. The iron can run from small quarter size or even smaller to big barrel bands and everything in between. The deeper I can hear the iron the better! I can hear some real deep iron with my Shadow X5 but there's no coil available for it close to the size of the WOT and I think the WOT should hear deeper. The floor of huts can be as little as 18" deep and up to 4 feet or more.
Thanks, ArtWI

Hey Art,
Can't think of any reason it wouldn't work. I've never used mine to intentionally look for deep iron- but it sure seems to pick up plenty when you are not looking.
Couple of thoughts. I've used my explorer to try find property stakes a couple of times. I'm so used to tuning out iron and only listening for non-ferrous targets through all the low iron tones it really took some concentration to do the opposite. You could probably set up a pattern the opposite of iron mask(open only the left part of the screen) and run in conductive if you were only looking for the iron.
I suspect that you could really cover some ground with the WOT if you are looking for concentrations of metal and not for every target. Probably could run and swing at the same time.
I would guess if there is quite a bit of shallower iron at these sites it may be tough to find the deeper stuff. Be sure to post your message on the other explorer forum. Know that there are several that have found cannon balls and probably could give you a better idea on depth.

Explorers in Virginia but I haven'e seen any with the WOT attached. Besides looking for deep iron I also have to hear everything else such as brass and lead. Here's what I'm considering for setup. IM -16, ferrous, gain 10, deep "on" etc. Maybe my question should have been about increased depth with the WOT. We're working a site that we have dug most of the shallower huts and now going after the real deep ones that are left. I won't be back east till fall to hut dig and am going to give the Explorer another run this summer as long as my arm holds out! I use the swingy thingy and that really helps. Thanks for the reply Chris.
