WOT Coil mounting

I just got a new WOT for my EXII. Do the 2 rubber washers go on the inside or the outside of the mounting mechanism? If they go on the inside is it supposed to be a very tight fit?

The rubber washers do go on the inside. It is supposed to be a tight fit as the size of the WOT will make it move without the friction of the rubber washers.

I ruined both rubber washers and the head popped off the nylon bolt when I hand tightend it. The fit is so tight, how do you get it to line up without ruining one or more parts?

Tom,awhile back on one of the forums, this same question was asked.Doc,from Los Vegas, said the rubber spacers were to use when and if the shaft loosened later on thou use If the shaft fits in tight without the spacers, good, don't use them.I can't find the post that he answered with.Send him an e-mail and ask. He's one of the sponsers here on the forums.Don't know if you bought the coil from him,he's the U.S.dealer for the WOT coil, but he can set you straight on the coil. Thanks Bob. Yes I did get the coil from Doc. To be truthful with you I am a little disappointed in the mounting mechanism. The "face" of the bolt and nut don't seem to be flush with the outside of the mounting mechanism when tightened. I think this is why the head of the nylon bolt popped off. I finger tightened it and it was not yet tight enough for the coil to stay put. I asked Doc for 2 new washers and a nylon bolt. Will try again when I get them.

I kind of liked it a little loose so it would track the ground while I swung it.
Now I have a homemade bracket that holds it in one place that seems to be working fairly well. Someone here suggested the bracket out of HDPE or Teflon (pricey). I ended up making mine out of 1/4" thick hickory and putting it on w/ ty-raps.

you could use a blow dryer to lightly heat up as you want to get a good fit <img src="/metal/html/smile.gif" border=0 width=15 height=15 alt=":)">, I havent tried it but on my WOT and joey I had no troble just cant remember if I used one washer <img src="/metal/html/shrug.gif" border=0 width=37 height=15 alt=":shrug">

If you still have trouble with it,try this. This was posted a long while back so I can't take credit for it.It should set the coil in one position. Two pics. Bob

It's just a common plastic coat hanger holder that hangs over the top of a door.

When I put the nylon bolt in the hole and started to tighten it I noticed a gap of about 1/16 inch (maybe a little more) between the top of the bolt (or nut) and the coil mounting bracket. Is this normal? The head popped off the 1st bolt I used. Doc replaced the bolt and washers and I now use 1 washer inside and another on the outside to try and make up for the gap. Are they all made like this?

I think they're all made like that. My bolt is quite bent, but I haven't had the head pop off it yet. Once you get the bolt tight, don't change the rotation on it and it shouldn't break if you don't overtighten it. Maybe a wedge shaped washer would be helpful. I think that's a homemade item though.
Right now my bolt is fairly loose since I'm using a homemade hickory coil support. Works great! My WOT is mounted on a homemade shaft extension, so it's out another 10" ahead of me. Yeah, it weighs a lot, but that's what the SwingyThingy is for...

I keep mine loose so it will conform to the flat / hills rocks or what ever I incounter, it will slide over very smooth. Frank

around the outside of the WOT and I had read that you leave it loose so it can be kicked up to pinpoint in discrimination with the heal of the coil. I have been thinking about getting one but where I hunt you can see pulltabs all over the top of the ground and plenty more under.

Thats coil tape holding a clear full coil cover on the WOT it will slide over the grass ,Dirt better .Frank
