I live close to a Sioux Indian battleground that took place in 1865. Would it be worth it to take my metal detector out there? Any ideas on what might be there to find?

Well, lets see. You don't say who the Lakota were fighting against, either the US Army or one of the host of other tribes they regularly got into it with. No matter though. We know the Lakota had been both trading with and raiding the whites and other tribes for a good hundred years or so by this time. Depending on a number of things, you could find anything from rifle or trade gun balls or shot, small bells and cones (used for decorations), knives, camp utensils, small axes, buckles, horse tack, silver jewelry, gun parts....the list goes on. You could find lead, brass, silver, copper or iron objects.
Don't forget to keep an eye out for beads or other glass items, too.

It is known as the Wood Lake Battle (in MN). It was at the start of the Sioux Uprising and against the US Army. There are a couple of these battle grounds in my area. Thanks for your reply! I am gonna give it a try. I just started metal detecting this spring. So far I am not having a whole lot of luck finding anything good. I need more ideas of where to go to look for stuff. Hopefully, I will come up with something at the battle grounds. Thanks again.
