I have found a Silver Sabre II locally for sale for 100 bucks. Not sure on the year, or any other details other than it works. I have been thinking about buying a new Compadre. Would this unit stack up as good as the Compadre? I am going to buy one or the other, so I would love some opinions.

I am waiting on a return e-mail from the seller at the moment. Dixiedigger57 gave me a good response about this question. I guess I should have saved it somehow before it got deleted.

i dont know anything about that detector but i do know coils cost twice that and more these days so if it all works should be fine.

heck yeah grab it thats a good detector!!!!

well, guys, to each his own. i like my tesoros. i like other brands and praised one i traded for a tesoro. different detectors for different needs and tastes. the best gun is the one that goes bang when you need it. the best detector is the one that goes beep and you find a good target. these forums have sponsors and yea sometimes i guess we get too happy about someone elses product, or critical. so there are ID users and sound users, and then both on some units. i am far sighted and tone deaf....so a good Loud beep gets dug! can barely see a meter. simple is better for me. i need one that vibrates! the largest treasure troves have been dug by amatuers or newbies with cheap detectors. whether they are old, new, simple, complicated cheap or expensive. they are fun. they all find something, and use what you can afford. Monte Von Berry says the best disc is yourself. i agree. old school new school. have fun. i can afford the older tesoros and they can be fixed promptly by the great folks at tesoro. other brands i cant mention also have good repair places. but i am keeping my herd purebred! cant have just one! no matter the brand! my favorite flavor is Tesoro! hey Rusty, know a legally blind fella that still hunts with a beeper unit, but one that vibrates would make me and him both happy. and waterproof it please!

I would go with the new Compadre, with the 5.75" coil, I have a friend that has one and loves it, and he has had a lot of the higher end units to.

The Silver Sabre ll is from the early 90's and is heavier....

I used to have a Silver Sabre II, and it is one of the best detectors I have owned. For $100 it's a steal, so long as it works ok.

thanks for the info/opinions :) very helpful
