In 1860, a family with the surname, McReynolds, came to this county, they built two log cabins, one for Robert, hi wife and kids, the other for Roberts recently married son, John. Now John was sheriff in our county for a short time, then he stole some cattle and went on the run... in the 1930's, the original log cabin housed a man named Trosper, the cabin burned to the ground killing Trosper and his dog. Today, where the cabin had once stood, and burned to the ground, is a wheat field, years ago the owner of the property gave me permission to hunt the area after wheat harvest and before they drilled in wheat in the fall... I havent gone, and wonder if I should give it a try later this year.

Robert's log cabin, where it had been originally built is unknown, the cabin was moved in about 1865 and it still stands today.

The man who died in the fire, well, was a bit "touched" in the head (ifin ya know what I mean) the reports were, that he always let his dog roam lose, then a week or so before the fire, someone broke into the cabin and robbed Trosper, his dog off running around gave no help (so much for Lassie) so Trosper chained his dog to the cabin at night... rumor is, the thief never got Trospers money, and he had come from a family that had money... and when the cabin burned, a man told me he was a little boy, he and his father were the first to arrive at the fire, the dog was howling, but the cabin burned so hot that his dad could not get near it to break the dog from the chain... sad.. now on hot summers days you can hear those old farmers saying "It's hotter than Trospers dog!"

I wondered if the robber from the week before came back, killed old Trosper for not giving him money, and set the cabin on fire to hide the crime...

Seriously Keely, get your butt out there with a buddy. And give that place sloooooow sweeps with your detector, preferably after a rain. There's goodies there waiting to be uncovered. Good luck !
