worst luck with pinpointers

I am mostly a water hunter but on occasions when my wife is at a meeting or I just nee to kill so time I will park hunt. I have used several pinpointers in the last 4 months due to losing them. I started off with the vibraprobe which I liked for diving even though it was pretty big but I had it for two years until I lost it, maybe it feel out of my truck when I was unloading my dive equipment and someone picked it up... I figured I would try out another brand of pinpointer since I did have a couple of issues with the vibraprobe which was 1). having to turn the probe upside down and wait several seconds to turn it off and on 2). the tip was large and didn't get into some of the small corral holes 3). unit is big and hard to find holsters for it. I decided to purchase a Makro pointer and thought it would be cool to have a pinpointer with sound. I had it for 2 weeks and used it about 8 times before forgetting it in a hotel while on vacation (the hotel claims that they didn't find it). I was a little disappointed in the Makro pointer anyways for diving 1). I didn't like the location of the on/off switches 2). when using underwater the speaker is useless and the vibration is weak and hard to feel even when you have very thin gloves on... I decided that my next pinpointer was going to be a Garrett carrot and talked my wife into buying it for me so she placed the order and put a rush on it so that I would get it in 2 days then the first thing that she does is take it out of the box and writes my name and # on it with a sharpy. I strapped that holster to my CTX and figured that I will always have it close by and is visible at all times when I am hunting. Lets just say that I got to use it twice before I lost it in the water and no one has called me to let me know that they found it. I don't have the guts to tell my wife that I lost it either so I purchased another one and put a rush on it before my wife finds out... This is my forth pinpointer in 1 month. I also purchased a drop leg holster for it and thinking of buying a lanyard too.

It is so easy to have a pinpointer " run away" while you are occupied with digging or stooping for a target. I use the waterproof Garrett pinpointer/holster with the following lanyard assembly:"Nitecore NTL20 Tactical Lanyard Strap For Flashlight 25.4mm Diameter", the stretch length is perfect and is secure.
Good luck with your new pinpointer!

I've never lost my PP but I have had to hunt for my probe a bunch of time, most of the time it was where I last dug. GL with your new one, and the lanyard is a good idea.

I've never lost one, but always keep a lanyard on mine when water hunting.
On the other hand, you've probably already lost your lifetime's worth so you should be Good To Go from here on out.

Try a 530 vibra probe . It has a 3/4" tip I use mine for diving and land . I have a lanyard with snap it hooks on my BC or my belt .I never use my 730 vibra probe any more.

Made my lanyard with a couple feet of para cord for my water hunts, their to easy to loose in water.
