Last Fri I got a flat tire, and today going to work the same exact tire, I got another one. 2 flats in 5 days!!! A brand new spare tire down the drain (I dented it in 3 places bad)!!!!!! I swerve to miss the potholes, but some times you cant swerve due to other traffic... This winter was bad for potholes!!!! In some place it is like driving on the moon!!!!! Why am I paying taxes???

And today gas is $3.75 for unleaded!!!!!!!! What is going on???????

Sounds like your new funds from the night job may be going to keep tires on your car? :rage:

Yeah oil was $120 a barrel today. It's going to get higher and the oil companies are cutting back on production so they can hike the price some more - while our cruddy politicians sit idly by doing nothing.. Truckers are talking about going on strike.

Bill[/quote]And the tree huggers still won't let us drill for oil in our own country. There's some of the blame.

3.75 per gallon? It equals to .99cents per liter. 99cents is approx.0.62 euros. So, one liter of gas cost about 0.62 euros per liter in USA. Here in Finland one liter cost around 1,45 euros, can also be more. So, one gallon would cost here 8.78USD. Hard to understand what is the problem?

I pulled out the bike today to come to work. Unfortunately that means no hunting at lunch today because I carry my laptop in one bag and my clothes in the other. No room for the Ace. I should take about $3.25 and put it in my coin jar when I get home since that is what I am saving by not driving the 25 mile round trip to work.

We in the US have been spoiled by low gas prices for a long time. While the tax on our gasoline is high in our eyes, it doesn't compare what many countries pay in taxes for fuel. The problem that arises in the US is we have basically no public transportation infrastructure so getting anywhere almost always requires a car. Rather than suck it up and be smart about energy, most Americans chose to bitch and moan. I am by no means an environmentalist but I like to be smart with my money. I walk to work unless it's raining. I added weather stripping and fixed leaks around my windows this winter and lowered my thermostat 2 degrees actually cutting my heating bill by about 40 percent. Stuff we could all be doing without too much trouble. The other side of the coin is my pal who drives a truck that gets 8-10 miles per gallon and he just doesn't give a damn. He has more money than I'll ever have.

High fuel prices are here to stay. They are higher in the US than they should be now due primarily to our weak dollar. I also subscribe to the theory that there is a fuel bubble (similar to the recent dot.com and real estate bubbles) that will burst and fuel prices will drop a buck or so a gallon and we'll be thankful for $3.00 a gallon gas.

My two cents.

Chris

The only thing I refuse to conserve on is detecting although I just switched to rechargeables so maybe that is a compromise.

When I hear from people in other countries that gas is a lot more than in the US I have to remind myself that they don't drive like we do here in the states. If you really think about it, how far can you really go in a country like Finland? I heard a saying that kind of puts things in perspective for me. "Americans think a hundred years is a long time and Englishmen think a hundred miles is a long way."
To me, a hundred miles is a trip to work and back..... Everyday.
To keep this metal detecting related, I hunted a tot lot in the rain (mist mostly) yesterday and found six 20 penny nails, 4 inches of wire, and a plated cross.

Gas in New York is $4.00 a gallon and up and diesel is $5.10 a gallon. Going to be four bucks everywhere soon and the resulting inflation will eat us up. Groceries here now are out of sight.

I went to a restaurant and the portions were much smaller than usual. I decided to ask the owner if this was due to the current economic situation at hand. I was informed that this was indeed true and to expect higher prices at restaurants all over. I was also told that in a 3-week period, flour jumped from 14.00 for a 50 pound bag to almost double the price????????

Yes, we are screwed with the dollar value falling everyday!!!!! When gas hit $102.00 per barrel, they said gas would be over $4.00 per gallon by the summer. Now, at $120.00, all bets are off (yes we are really screwed)!!!!!!!

Thanks, now I'll get back to baseball and treasure hunting (these things I still have control over)!!!!!!!!:surrender:

The goverment could override that but since they are on the oil company payroll it won't happen. There hasn't been a new refinery built in this country in almost 35 years. The tree huggers didn't stop that.

I bought a 50 lbs. bag in Feb. and paid $24. That was when the price was still low.
Ethanol kept the price of gas down? Food and gas are both higher. I wish they never started making ethanol. The whole world is hurting because of it.
