worst hunt ever....bar none!

Haven't hunted in a week. Made big plans to head to the big city and had everything all ready and headed out. Got to the big city and rented motel for 2 days then headed to my little area to do some door knocking and curb stripping. Had everything ready, charger, thermos, smokes, food, clean clothes, etc all packed. Get to town and get all my crap ready to go hunting and realize I don't have my battery for the Trac....$#@!& These coins I've got recently from the big city are all deepies so the Tesoro GSII that's behind the seat of the PU won't cut it here. So I head over to an old military fort/park (1877) and hope to find some out-of-the-way area where there's not 3-4" of turf as the GSII is only good for 4-5" dime. I find a spot where there may be some shallow coins and get started with the GSII and start digging crap and realize now how much I miss the Etrac...lol. Anyways....I'm stuck here so I try and find some shallow digs and 15min into a lousy hunt...here comes the cop and he runs me off. Back to motel to try and get a refund on my 2 nights and had a little bit of a battle there but not bad and get my dough back. So after big plans, 220mi round trip, $45 in fuel I come home with 1 '64 memorial......

Don't leave your battery pack home on the coffee table......!!!!!!!!

Wow ,you do a 2 night road trip and don't take your battery, that hurt.At least you did'nt lose digger or pinpointer.

Been there done that too.
For the first hunt of this year, got my all batteries charged and all ducks in a row.
Halfway to my site, it dawned on me, looked back in my Jeep, :yikes:.... forgot to take my eTRAC! :rage:

Been there and done that also! Here is all I have to offer as consolence....

pretty disgusted with MYSELF more than anything. We were supposed to have a small break in the weather and that's what I tried to plan the trip around but as it turned out I'd have been dodging rain storms all day today anyways so maybe it worked out best in the long run? I'll try again some other time.........and possible I might forget something else next time but I guarentee it won't be the battery pack...!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Think I may also put the aux battery pack in PU on a permenant basis......

Boy, do I feel your pain on this one! I once drove 350 miles one way to hunt with the Etrac. Didn't have to worry. Had my RNB battery (which I had just charged 3 or 4 hunts ago, so I figured I had plenty of power.) Must have accidentally turned it on while packing it. Got there and it was dead as a hammer. AND NO CHARGER!!!

At least you had another detector. I had nothing! But I learned a very good lesson.

Now, before every trip I top off the RNB battery, put it in the Etrac, but don't click it into place, load it into the Minelab carry bag and always carry a battery pack in the side pocket of the carry bag. AND I always carry a spare detector.

You are not alone!

Thanks for posting this. Hopefully others will learn from your (and our) mistakes.

I got all my equip. except the detectors loaded in the CRV at all times.-----I might forget the detectors (hasn't happened yet)---but I ain't gonna forget nothing else!

Ouch !

Yes ... this is a "Two Is One - One Is None" hobby - it's always good to bring two coils, two battery packs, two pinpointers, two sets of headphones - two flashlights, etc.
From what I've seen - if it's going to break, get lost or if you just forgot to bring it - it will happen on a big trip !

My wife and I drove 30 minutes away to a the mountains to hunt the woods a couple days ago, and I brought everything but our diggers. I left them in our living room. ..I felt so stupid. Glad I'm not the only one who does crap like that.

Didn't you have your Battery Backup?

I feel for ya.

That sort of thing happens to me on just about every kind of trip I take. Seems the more prepare, my only improvement is WHAT I will forget at home. Fishing trip? Packed the fly rod and left the reel. Camping? Forgot the bag of tent stakes. Canoeing? Where's my paddle? Over the years its gotten better, to the point where I bought an extra AA battery holder and digger that stays in the car.
Now if I can remember to pack the headphones and probe every time ill be in business!
I went on a business trip once and left my suit in the garment bag hanging inside front hall door. I had to go clothing shopping and spent 500 bucks I didn't need to on some new duds.
So it goes...

Did I ever tell you guys about the time I almost drove off & left my wife in the park after a hunt?-----Boy did she yell!! (I'm kidddin)-----That IS a good way to get a black eye tho!!;)

I used to do a lot of out in the fields photography and pretty quickly learned to set up a "Go Bag" the night before the outing with a checklist on top of the bag in my recliner. After that, the worst case of forgetting anything was the time I got 2 blocks from home before I realized I had left it all in the recliner!! In my defense, it was 3 AM and I DID have my coffee with me... :heh:
