Worlds Smallest Quarter?

Thought some of you might like to see this 25 cent gold piece. It belonged to my Great Grandmother and is not a metal detector find. Its called a California Small-Denomination Gold Piece. These were minted between 1852 and 1883. They were minted in 25 cent, 50 cent, and 1 dollar denominations. This is the 25 cent gold coin. Very cool.....sure wouldn't be hard to lose would it.

WOW! You weren't kidding about being small. Great history behind it also. Priceless! Thanks for sharing it with us and HH, Nancy

Neat little coin for sure...like to find one!!

Guessing it would ring up as a piece of foil? Have you swung your detector over it Daryl? Oh, wouldn't that be something to see coming out of the ground. Too cool!

HH,

An air test with the E-trac gave me a signal of 12-02 with the coin close to the coil. Any farther away than 1 inch I get no signal at all. 12-02 is what I also get on Star's wedding ring. I tried an air test with the V3i and got no signal at all. The test with the V3i was in factory coin mode. I think that by tweaking the settings a bit I should get about the same results as the E-trac. I'm thinking that the VDI numbers should probably be around 5 or 10. Its such a tiny amount of gold that I doubt most machines would pick it up at much depth.

Coins mode on the V3i has that range of of VDI'd rejected, you will have to go to Coin and Jewelry or Hi Pro to get a reading below +15 VDI Daryl.

Thanks Larry. Ok, went back out and air tested the tiny gold coin in Coin and Jewelry and Hi Pro with the V3i. No signal in Coin and Jewelry. Hi Pro gave a good signal at about 1 1/2 inches or less but no signal past 1 1/2 inches from the coil. Vdi numbers bounced a little bit between +3 and +8 but hit more consistent at +5. All tests were done in factory settings.

 I love that Hi Pro program, slightly modified of course........:bouncy:

Good luck this afternoon, digging is not to bad. I just got done digging a big hole in my front yard and I would be out hunting if I didn't have chores to do....
