Working the Nulls

I was out last Sunday and got into an area that was soooo full of junk, that the detector gave a constant null (i.e. was discriminating) most of the time. I was running at iron mask -8 and I know that several houses were there, so I am pretty certain that it is a heap of nails and other junk.
I managed to pull a number of coins from near the surface (no more than 2 inches down), but really couldn't pick out the deeper, more difficult signals. After I left, I thought that perhaps a fast recovery mode might be beneficial.
Any advice or suggestions in terms of setting for working an area like this would be greatly appreciated. (I know that a smaller coil would be beneficial too - it is on my xmas wish list.)
Thanks in advance!
Tim

Definately a smaller coil would help, but you can do better with the iron mask set down around -13 1 14 fast response and ferrous audio.. diging any fairly repeatable signal that gives a higher tone than iron.. disregard the meter and go by audio.. sweep very slow with small side to side motions,, your sens should also be lower in nulls caused by iron.. keep it below 20 or run auto.. experiment with different sens settings when you do get a signal to seee which setting gives the best response before digging

Jim -
Thanks for your tips... I'll back off to 20 or less on sensativity and try the fast response.
How do you pinpoint in this situation? I am guessing that x marks the spot, but I thought that I would see if you have a technique that is more effective.
Thanks again!
Tim

If I can get a respons in pinpoint I use disc and use the x method
