Woodpeckers

A few days ago I took these pics in my backyard, I wanted to post them the same day, but findmall would not load. Others were having the same problems, don't know what happened, but it is back today. These were taken early in the morning as I was having my morning coffee out on my back porch. The dead tree is about 70 feet away and the branches are about 50 feet high from the ground. I took them with my FujiFilm HS20EXR. The really close ones were taken at 700mm zoom (hand held of course). I can't believe this pecker wood stuck around this long, but I think he was waiting for his mate, as I could hear another drumming in the distance. Sure enough another appeared and they both flew off. These are the best of the 63 pics I took, sure glad my camera is digital........lol Enjoy.........nge P.S. I also took a pic of "Jake" running from something he knew he did wrong....lol And a blackbird on a stroll.

thats quite a close up of the woodpecker...i cant recall seeing one that close...i like it

You did great without using a tripod on the woodpecker picture. That camera is doing a good job for you. Kelley (Texas) :)

I am in the city also, suburb of Detroit. We feed our wild birds oiler sunflower seeds year round. That is why we have woodpeckers coming here quite a bit. We have Downy's, Hairy's, North American Flickers, this one has a ladder back design on his back, but I can't remember which one it is.......nge
