I have been working on getting permissions in a small town 2 miles from my house that dates back to 1821. I saw that someone was clearing an old lot that used to have a house on it. They're going to put in a new house or 2.This lot has been empty for 40+ years. The biggest problem I found with it tonight is that everybody in town must've been using it as a dump for the last 40 years. So, I searched around for a clearer spot. I finally found an area not completely polluted and my 1st good signal was a clad dime. My second was this 1856 Seated Half Dime. My 1st seated.

I about crapped my pants. Before this, the oldest coin I've found was an 1880 IH.
On my next pass, 7 feet from the half dime I find this 1847 Large Cent. Also my 1st Large Cent.

way to go Dave! Were you using the 5" coil? I found three nickels today ,one was a no date Buffalo.

but I might have to go in there with it before it's over. It's just full of every kind of trash. I'm sure there's more good coins but they are probably buried under the junk. These 2 were only 1-2" deep.

I guess Tripod doesn't want to be used for linking purposes. I did not know that. I'm trying another service now.

Coins like these are far and few between in my neck of the woods but stumble on one now and then..

Nice. Give you a rush and encourages you to keep going and keep asking.

Dan,
Yeh, they're few and far between here in West Virginia also. It's hard to find what I like to call "old dirt". Everything's been bulldozed and backfilled. Plus there weren't lots of people here until about the 1880s.

Sweet finds! A big congrats on getting your first seated and LC. You were supposed to wait until you came up here to hunt... Half Dimes are hard to come by anywhere. That 3D rocks!
