Wondering what might be a good thing to do with something...

My step-mother had collected 'first day replica stamped envelopes" that have the stamp, envelope with the stamped date of first issue and a 22K gold replica of the stamp. She paid something like $20 for 3 of these 'collecible' envelopes - total number of envelopes varied per album but each is worth about $200 - pretty much face value of what she paid to fill the album.

Looking at the albums I see some things that make me think not everything was on the up and up. First glaring thing was that upside down airplane stamp we mentioned back in November (ya know the very expensive one stuck to an absentee ballot). It isn't actual size but double size stamp. Obviously it isn't a real stamp - making me wonder if any of the other stamps are of any value to a stamp collector. The 22K gold replica is supposed to be actual size.

Here are some pics:

As you see it looks nice. Most of the others have an actual postal mark (cancellation marks) under the stamp.

The whole thing is smilar to this eBay item (except there are 3 envelopes per page instead of the 2 shown in the pics here):

My question is - since they don't seem to be selling these collections on eBay for much of anything - do you think it would be worth more to find one of those places that buy bulk gold and sell the 22K gold 'replicas'?

I've noticed no one seems to be buying stamp collections so the value of the stamps may not be worth anything.

I'm open to suggestions. I don't have room to store all the stuff I am finding at my Dad's house. Can't see selling the stuff on eBay if her $200 collection is only worth less than $50. Anyone want to trade :)

Let me know your thoughts.

I would try a couple on line stamp collector sites and ask what they are really worth before I sold them.
