Wondering if my daughter out-hunted me today . . . . ID confirmation needed

Took my daughter and my sister-in-law's son out to a site with a home built in 1812 to do some hunting. Picture perfect weather . . . 70's and clear blue skies - hard to believe it is almost December already!

We hit a few keepers including a pair of fired Minnie Balls, a brass ring and spoon from the 1800's and a few 1900's type coins. In the edge of the tree line close to where I hit the spoon, my daughter got a signal with her X-Terra 70.

Took a while to get through the roots but at about 8 inches, she pulled up the item in the photo.

Here's another shot of the find . . .

We wrapped it in my digging cloth and took it back to the truck . . . .

Here are some close-ups . . . . no cleaning done yet along with measurements.

What I was looking for from other relic hunters is obviously thoughts on the piece . . . . .

Thanks in advance

In the photo the "relic" is cleaner in the hole, than it is on the driveway. Something is just not right there.

Additionally, the way the piece is oriented in the ground, and the close proximity to the surface suggest that it should have been found long ago. Either she is really lucky, or some re-enactor is giggiling from behind a bush...

until we got home. The site is privatley owned and teh owner has turned down requests to hunt it over the years . . . . . being sold to a developer (guess the price was right) and through my daughter (she's 12) who met the owner, we were given permission to hunt the site before the deal is finalized and construction starts.

The depth of the find was ~8" and under a number of roots. Not to say that it is not a newer piece as several years ago I hunted a Rev War site in NY that had some nice finds at 6" or so . . . turned out to be from re-enactors in the 50's and 60's.

As far as how it is oriented, it was actaully upside down when we found it and it was pulled free and the dirt knocked off for the photo. More to show the type fo dirt if came out of.

I've seen them pulled out of the red GA clay before and know what they look like but the soil here in the Carolina's is a bit more forgiving in terms of what it does to the brass and lead relics.

Here's a photo of it cleaned . . . .

{and yes, I hit the edge near the "A" . . . . ]

It was one of The tokens for one of the Prizes in our Sliver hunt. I thought at first I needed a Nitro pill :D: . I liked it so much that I didn't want the prize I just wanted to keep it. Got a nice prize for the buckle though. It is a Replica. Maybe she was messing with you. :D: Now that is something my Daughter would pull on me. Later Jerry aka Tinfoil.

i'd say she has a good chance of having a great find there... I certainly hope so. Be sure and let us know what you find out...
PS.. I'm really digging the T2 I bought, thinking about trying an Explorer SE.

. . . . . I tend to doubt she's messing with me. She got the signal and I dug it out for her (that's how we typcially hunt - gets the young ones interested rather than getting frustrated digging). The site has the right age, there have been a number of CSA items found in the local area and it has not been hunted before with permission . . . . .

I have a friend that found a CS plate less than 2 inches down - just under the leaves - on a site near Kenensaw, GA two years ago so they are still out there and being found at depths you would have thought they would have been found at years ago.

And as to the question is she lucky? So far this year she has 2 large cents (1802 and 1814) and a British pewter button from a site that club members have written off as cleaned out years ago . . . . . beats me more often than not!
