Wondering about depth on MX 5.Did they fix tone problem?

Just wondering on some of the finds with MX5 and depth they are reaching with stock coil, but kid of put off beacuse all i,am reading about tone problem.

Plenty of depth. It has alot of power and id's good at depth.. They are working on the tones. Just so you know not all of them have an issue as of now.. Mine does it acts up i have to shut it off and restart then its fine for a while...

whites knows and yes they are now working on it..small glitch is all...will be handled and fixed very very soon... you will love this machine if you buy it.. I still love mine even with the glitch..was never upset over actual machine..we all know new machines can have little adjustments needed... I just needed whites to recognize a problem and they did.. its weight and great balance along with mxtpro performance is making it my number 1 machine.. the headphone jack I thought would be an issue but doesn't bother me at all and I believe that is because most new headphones are now coming with longer cords.. buy it and enjoy..

most machines don't have any issues and the ones that do is just a small glitch.. whites called me and let me know its being taken care of.

Really interesting thing here. My MX5 also had the tone problem. May still have it, BUT I tried an old trick I used on my M6 a couple of times when it went a little wonky. I turned it on, and while it was on, I ejected the battery pack. SEEMS to have fixed it although I only had a few minutes of testing afterward (my wife was threatening my life for 'playing with' my detector on Thanksgiving). Time will tell, but I've got my fingers crossed!

I'm interesting in buying one (still deciding between m6 and mx5), but if it is a hardware problem, I will better wait untill the issues with the tones are fixed. If it is an software bug, could it be fixed ("at home") with a firmware update? Is it possible with Whites machines?

Thanks

Removing the battery (for about 30 seconds) with it turned on is how one can reboot it (this also works with the xlt) .

My MX5 is outrunning the advertised battery life, and even with 4 or 5 hours on my last set of batteries I am going to replace them and try a couple of fresh sets of alkaline batteries and do a couple of dry-run tests with them, using motion over ground and targets to keep it responding. It will be interesting, and something to do during 'cabin fever' season.

The depth I have experiences so far has been very good. It is very close to my MXT All-Pro, and at times I like the MX5 a little better because I lost a lot of hearing in my right ear (needs a hearing aid) due to scar tissue on her ear canal and ear drum from my 2010 fall off a ladder. My already bad left ear has been getting worse. It was bad from five incoming mortar rounds in Viet Nam that all landed about

Good to hear!

It'a a good thing you brought this to their attention!
I'm glad you love the machine and wish you many great finds!
