I finally made the jump. I found a just right deal on a used mostly right detector. I couldn't swing an etrac even used but I could and did swing a used explorer se pro! Found a great deal on a unit that looks new, no scratches save for coil cover and unavoidable upper shaft paint nick, about 2 years old and a year left of the transferable warranty. The biggest hole in the explorer/etrac lineup seems to be small gold/thin necklace and the horrible recovery time. I figure I can live with a slower swing to compensate. As for the small gold problem the patch should be a teknetics g2 sometime in the future when I can afford that. So now I get to pull my hair out like the rest of you trying to learn how to use this whiz-bang gizmo.

I'm a newbie too but no hair to pull out. Only have 12.5 hours on it. Slow is the way to go. Still have a lot of learning to do but practiced a lot on the computer with that emulator software and read Andy Sabisch's book about six times already. Just beginning to get the tone thing down and swapping smart screen with digital to see what's what. I like the challenge. You will too once it starts to get familiar.

Thanks for the welcome mike, bigjon, pirate.

Yeah, lots to learn an I got my first big lesson at a local park with some shade trees around. The lesson is hunt in the day or the skeeters will get you badly. Little boogers came out in droves the second the sun set. I need to figure out how to find good spots to hunt.
