WM10 Problem :stars:

Had a great day with my CTX 3030 today. It performed as I've come to expect, flawlessly! And, as I always do, I connect both the battery for the detector and the WM10 module to the charging unit. Check to see if both the green lights are flashing, indicating they made a good connection and the charge has begun. Later on in the evening I check both for a status on the charge. The green LED indicator light for the battery is no longer flashing, indicating the battery is fully charged. However, the LED indicator light on the WM10 module is still flashing. I disconnected the module, then reconnect it. I left it on overnight and this morning, it's still flashing. Again, indicating it's still in a charging mode. Historically, the module should have been charged already!

I'm of the mindset, the module has most likely malfunctioned. Or perhaps, the main charging base/unit has malfunctioned. However, as the detector's battery is fully charged, I believe the problem lies with the module itself. Has anyone had this problem? Would appreciate hearing other's opinions. Might be time to contact Jamie at Minelab as my unit is still under warranty. Thanks to everyone for taking the time to read this and perhaps responding.

Your process is the same as mine has been for ever but the blinking green light for the module is not right at all. I would have unplugged waited a minute and tried again just like you did.
It is time for help from Minelab. Good luck

Mine seems to take a long time on the charger too. Annoying as the CTX battery charges so fast.
People have replaced their batteries on their own but not sure how that affected the situation.
People seem not complaining about run time - just charge time. That is a sign that the charger has an incorrect charge rate. Actually better for the battery as it doesn't get as hot while charging. There are a variety of usb charge rates based on how the device matches up with the wm10's usb port. An Apple wall charger with usb port can act differently than the CTX charger usb port. Need one of those usb power monitors sold on ebay to see the charge rate and understand what is going on.

There is a reset button on the WM10
I don't have mine in front of me now but seems it's on the bottom of the front panel.
If you look carefully one hole does not look like the others , one is round and that's the reset.
Use a paper clip or pin and reset it and see if that solves the problem , it can't hurt
Let us know if it works

This has been covered over and over again. The flashing light on the WM-10 while charging is normal. If you sat there and watched it the entire time, you see it go from blinking (charging) to solid (fully charged). When it stays on the charger for a while after that point it begins blinking again. Happens for most of us, but it fully charged.

Ok, it was still flashing green, but did it charge up? Mine usually charges in about 3 to 4 hours or so. And I recall that when it was new it flashed forever, but still was charged. MIght be as Jason said, it got charged, and you were not there looking at it, and it was still on the charger, so it started up again. I would take it off and see if it charged up! If it did I would drain it the next time then recharge it!
I did the 'swap out the battery thing' and the size of the replacement battery was the real issue for me. Lots of similar sizes, 'similar' but not exact, and the closest ones often have the wrong connector on them, or two sets of wires.

I have a spare wm-10 that had not been charged for a year or so. It took 2 days for the green light to go solid.

My WM10 module tends to flash green for hours then when I get back to checking it it's turned to a flashing red. It doesn't seem to affect it's performance though but it is a bit unnerving.

Yes if you leave the WM-10 on for a long time it will start blinking again. If you want to test it just turn it on and leave it on till it does the auto shut down....do that 3 to 4 times then put it back on charge and put it somewhere you can watch it and soon as it turns solid take it off right away. Or just use it for a couple of hunts and then charge it as usual but just check on it and as soon as the light goes solid take off.

Update: Detected the last 3 days and as usual, when I get home I place both batteries on the charging unit. Being that I don"t completely drain the batteries, it doesn't take long to charge them up. I placed the charging unit in our TV room so I can watch TV and monitor the progress of the charge. Three times in a row, the main battery completed it's charge and the green LED light went solid. However, the WM10 LED light never went solid. In each case, I removed the WM10 from the charging unit, waited 15 minutes and then plugged the WM10 module back in. It continued to flash. I increased the time on the charger an additional 1/2 hour each time to see if it would charge and go solid. No luck. Today while detecting, everything was going fine. Then all of sudden my headphones went quite, no a sound. I examined the WM10 module, there were no LED lights flashing, indicating it was on. I turned it back on and continued detecting. It did it one more time, and again I turned it back on. For another 3 hours it continued to work properly. This evening after charging for 4 hours, the LED light is still flashing. I have monitored it continuously for the 4 hours and LED never went solid. I believe it;s time to contact Jamie.

A big thanks to everyone who posted in response to the thread.

Well this was a surprise but explains it.
I ordered a USB power monitor and got it in two days and it shows 100mA charge rate!
This is with the Minelab charge base or an Apple wall source. That is a charge rate very safe for the battery and will get you the longest life out of it, but I think most of us would sacrifice faster, higher charge rate to get it done faster and in sync with the CTX battery charge time.

100 ma is a laugh...

Change the cable. My phone charges at 0.620A when using a good cable... On a bad cable about 0.090A

I change my USB cables about every 12 months... Makes a world of difference...

The smart charging in the WM10 and phones look at teh Voltage and then regulate the current ; but if your cable is bad and or high resistance.... Then the system does not know the TRUTH and gets its charging rates all confused... Same for phones and other systems...

I worked at WDC with USB since its inception and never saw such a thing with a cable. This is not a cable issue. Note that with different source voltage it remains 100ma basically exactly. If anyone sees a higher current into their WM10 I'd like to know about it.
