WM-10 Question

While detecting and using the wireless pack, this afternoon, I kept get a very frequent sound like you would get if you slightly unplug a headphone and plug it back in. I have been out 3 hunts before this and it never happened until today. I wiggled the headphone cord to see if I could make it happen but it did not. I plugged the headphones directly into the machine and hunted without that sound occurring. Before starting back up with wireless I switched the channel from 1 to 5. It didn't make any difference, I still got that sound.
The only thing different between the last hunt and today's hunt was that I loaded the MineLab Firmware upgrade when I noticed that I didn't have PinPoint Lock as an option on my machine. I have a Mac so I actually had to drag the update into the CTX folder while plugged into the USB cable. The Firmware Update said it was successful.

I have had a weird tone come in and out a few times but everytime it has been the old ID10T error. I 'unplugged' the ear buds pin slightly and when I pushed it back all was well.

What is the error you're talking about? I have not seen that.

No. SunRay ProGold CTX version headphones.

I was detecting in 2 tone ferrous with the ferrous 35 and conductive 50 lines discriminated out.

Had the same problem. It was my sun rays

They worked fine when plugged into the machine and didn't happen at all for the first 3 hunts.

Yes. Both switches are up.

It was usually on a signal I'd get that breaking sound. I tried wiggling the headphone cord and couldn't repeat it so I assumed it wasn't in the headphone cord. Both switches are in the up position. I did notice you can run in the down position as well but forgot to test that while this was happening. Like I was saying, the only thing different was I loaded the firmware update that includes PinPoint lock on my machine between hunts.

So, I went out in my yard for

The WM10 charge seems to last longer than the CTX charge. I always charge them together and I have never completyely drained the battery on the WM10, but have on the CTX.

That's good information. Thank you. At least I know it wasn't caused by a low battery. I always charge the WM-10 and the machine at the same time.

I thought maybe it might so I switched from channel 1 to channel 5 and it still happened.

I don't think EMI is going to cause this type issue. Isolate each thing by unplugging the headphone while it is happening, then unplug the wireless. Also, if one of your hunting buddies has a CTX, swap out the wireless with him and use his. Sounds more like some sort of earphone/speaker feedback issue. I would mover away from the machine speaker and see if that had any effect on the noise. Check and see if there is a position/physical relationship between the speaker on the machine and the earphones. I know the machine speaker is supposed to be shut off but it could be the problem. I have used the Gray Ghosts on the CTX and never had the issue, but I primarily use ear buds because of the Houston heat and humidity.

I get that 'scratchy' sound through my wireless module as well sometimes (infrequently). My headphones lasted lees than 20 days before I had to send them back...the cord broke internally at the plug...another common problem apparently.
