WM-10 Distortion Issues

For some reason my CTX headphones were seriously distorting through the WM-10 today. It wasn't until I moved one switch up and one down on the headphones that it was OK for the 3 1/2 hour hunt. I've never had this happen before. Anyone else experience this?

Weird... Can't say I have had that happen before...

I discovered that it's the Volume Limit on the CTX that was causing the headphone distortion with Limiter Switch on the SunRay headphones in the Down position. What are most of you using for Volume Limit on the CTX?

I use the Sun Ray Pro Golds and do not see any difference when the left switch is up or down. Of course, the right switch needs to be down to shut off the CTX speaker.

Have you tried raising your Volume Limit to 30 on the CTX? I'd like to know if your headphones distort with that at 30 and both switches down.

Thank you very much! That will help me.

The Limiter Circuit on the SR Pro Gold Headphones is not operable on the CTX 3030 (as it and many other detectors have their own limiter circuit incorporated) and should be left in the UP (or OFF) position. It will not cause a problem when plugged directly into the CTX HP jack, however, when using the WM-10 the limiter will distort the sound when turned on, especially in the lower nickel area range (my observations). The instructions with the HP (pink paper) states that the Limiter is not operable with the CTX.

Right. I thought the paper had said to keep both switches in the down position. So the limiter switch should be up and the mode switch down, correct?

I will check it out and get back to you!

DukeOBass,
I checked out the Pro Golds this AM with full volume (both CTX and Headphones) and left switch in both up and down positions and did not experience any distortion. Sounds like you may need to send them in to have them checked out.
Good Luck
Chuck

Did you try Volume Limit not Volume?

And no distortion with the Limiter Switch in either position? I thought I was going crazy because I swear I had been running the SunRay CTX headphone with both switches down and then, out of the blue, the next time I used the detector I had distortion all of a sudden. Can someone else check that for me? Both switches down, Volume and Volume Limit set to 30 on the CTX. Does it distort through the headphones.
