Wizard Vib Probe II

Never used a pinpointer before, but for $37.95 plus shipping, I decided to give the Vib Probe a try. Now I don't know what took me so long to try one. I won't go detecting without it. However, there are two things I didn't like about the Vib Probe. (1) the battery fits tight and is heck to get out and (2) the little thumb wheel used to turn it on and adjust the operating range is a little tedious, especially with a dirty or gloved thumb. The thumb wheel on mine actually came off. I don't leave it on all time, so everytime I go to use it, I have to roll the little wheel. So while I had it opened up to put the thumbwheel back on (the little screw holding it to the control had come out), I made some checks with my meter and found that the black wire from the battery connector could be cut close to where it goes onto the circuit board and soldered to the side of the leaf switch closest to the trigger and R15 could be clipped so the led wouldn't stay on all time. Now all I do is pull the trigger, set the thumb switch control and go. To pinpoint, just pull the trigger. The pinpointer only operates when the trigger is pulled. Now the led doesn't work, but I didn't really need it. But if you think you need the light. One could lift up the circuit board, cut the other side of the leaf switch ( the one furtherest from the trigger)out of circuit, cut the black wire from the battery connector far enough back from the circuit board that the end of it coming from the circuit board could be connected to side of the leaf switch closest to the trigger and the other end of the black wire to the other side of the the leaf switch. As far as the battery, I took a spring from a AA battery holder and put it on the little tab where the base of the battery goes. I hope that will help push the battery out.

Good mod! The price is right on the Wizard. A pinpointer will spoil you.

I built my own pinpointer with a trigger so it's only on when you pull it. I added a belt clip and ruler.

I have a Wizard Vib-Probe and have never had a problem with it. I have let others with me use it and have seen them toss it on the ground beside them while digging, bang it around in a hole etc. As cheap as it is, I'm surprise it's beeping after what it's gone through. I know they are cheap, wonder if u got a really bad one as mine works like the day I got it. Don't look as clean tho. Thumb wheel is tight, I just turn it on and thumb it real quick till the vibration stop. Whip it across my lesche diggin tool for a quick test and that's it. Still going....
