here's my story,. as of 23rd of may I will have had my mxt300 2yrs.,however after reading the mxt edge and going through the videos half dozen times I was having fits with my machine.couldn't get the machine any where near the presets and when I did dig a target the bulls eye 2 was giving me fits,I placed my machine on the shelf and went back to bass fishing.Then for some reason I purchased a set of grey ghost so I got the mxt back out, same problem but I was going to get my money worth out of the grey ghost so I persisted.As I was reading the paper work that come with the headphones I found info for this web sight I started reading the post of others and making use of the information everyone was giving.I bought a sunray dx1 and a 5.3 coil. machine was running great.I went on another forum and ran a post for a hunting buddy the guy that contacted me ends up being a 26 yrs friend and neighbor of a family member how cool is that,he has also been in the hobby 30 yrs. He comes to my house with his machine finds a war nickel,2 mercs.and a Rosie,within 30 minutes,I'm thinking what the heck.I go purchase a 4x6 it runs just as sweet as the 5.3 but its so small I go purchase a 6x10 it runs just as sweet as the 5.3, and 4x6. I'm thinking I'm getting it now using the different coils per application making some good finds having fun,I put the 12'' back on still can't run the gain over 3.I check my warranty and find I have 4 months on it. needless to say my mxt300 left Tulsa,OK. Friday for a check up.I'll post the report when it gets back to me.I'm also going to purchase a camera,maybe m6 for a loner.I'm hooked.

Sounds like your coil is bad. You're all set up for a year of good detecting and it won't take the Whites team long to check your machine out. They have a fast turnaround. Great people there too. Now we just have to wait for this weather to cooperate! We've been biting at the bit to get out there detecting also, but not in this snow covered frozen ground. HH, Nancy

I'm using all the coils you mention including the 12" without any problem. I agree with Nancy, sounds like your 12" is faulty.

I agree with Nancy and BarberBill, I have a Super12 I thought was bad and since using my MXT for 3 years I also sent the machine in with the 12. Came to find out tho that my main ground wire in the MXT was loose and was causing the coil to be erratic. Even tho it didn't bother the other coils I had. I agree also that you should at least send the super12 in and also if you have a hunting partner see if they have a like coil and check it against yours, might tell you something. GL HH. KC
