With hot and humid weather and worked out near by parks revalued my hunting strategy.

The Fisher 1236X-2 has always been one of my favorite metal detectors. This detector has great depth simple and compact.Anyway the one advantage in my area that I've over looked our small lakes with shallow sandy beaches. The hot and humid weather makes park hunting too uncomfortable. I put the Fisher in a small bag and wear it around my neck to access waist to chest deep water.I have found lots of clad and have increased my odds to find some gold rings.Even with the temps are in the 90s the water metal detecting is very pleasant.Yesterday I stopped at a Michigan state park to purchase a sticker ($24.00).I asked the gal at the booth if any water hunting was allowed she said probably but better check with the main office.I told her I think everything is alright and besides you owe me one last year I returned an old DNR badge at this office I found in another state park. She laughed and said the park rangers were just talking about that old badge displayed inside.Looking forward to water hunting.

A cooler way to hunt and still get some swinging in. It was pushing 90 by 9 here this morning, but I got out early and lasted until 9:30. I was soaked, but did manage a couple of silver dimes. Good luck in the water. It looks like you are ready. HH jim tn

Jim,I need to stop cherry picking and find some gold.Much easier to dig low targets in the sand. Thanks

Looks like a great way to beat this heat! Good luck with the hunting!

Magic, with the price of gold, shallow water area lakes metal detecting, may be a good idea.I see on your signature you are from Indy, both my son's live there,no work in Michigan. Thanks

Hey Ron , I got one hunt in the other week early with the new to me 1236X2.Your right its just to dang hot.Thats a neat trick with the bag though.

Woodchuck, the coil sweep speed isn't critical with the 1236X-2 which is nice.Even with the 8 inch coil you can cover a lot of ground quicker than most metal detectors.I never use the pinpoint button, which is a habit with most Sovereign user's.Thanks

The 1236X2 is nice that way like you said Ron. I like how its dead on the target to with the pinpointing and the VCO sqeal is a little mellower to instead of being so high pitched as in some detectors.

Ron,
I have never water hunted before.
How deep is your finds and is the bottom where you hunt mucky or sandy or gravel?
Any tips on water hunting.. I may just give it a shot.

Magic, most of the swimming area's I hunt are sand bottoms. One place I was at the muck smelled like sewer water, even though it was a large lake IMHO wader's only for those kind of lakes.I'm not muck of a water hunter I have a lot to learn,so not much help for tips.I think a good sand scoop is important and just go out and get some experience in the water.Today's hunt found a nice 925 ring new change and a toy car.
