i am new the ex2 but can hear pretty fast if its a high tone or low.not each tone but what general tone it is. since most things i would want are high tones. which screen is really best to hunt in and why. if i use my ear to get the basic idea of what a target might be , do i need to see it on the smart screen. the digital screen would let me seperate nickles from tabbs.
by not hunting in smart will i miss out on some nice targets??? what screen do you use and why or do you use both
thank you for all your help

I think this is another user preference and why there are several screen that can be used. However, I prefer to hunt in the digital screen for several reasons. If Iron Mask is ON then the digital screen represents the Iron Mask screen setting but if OFF then the digital screen represents the SmartScreen. I can set one level of discrimination on the SmartScreen and another on the Iron Mask screen and use the ON/OFF IM Button to switch between two different levels of discrimination. Also, I cannot tell as find of a level of discrimination of a target with the crosshairs as I can with digital numbers. As an example I cannot tell 6/22 from 6/23 using the crosshairs and there is a difference that may prevent digging a lot of pulltabs. If the signal is nice and clear with a digital reading of 3/28 and deep then I can just about bet it is a penny. If the signal is not clear then I can switch to Iron Mask for the digital screen and if IM is set to -15 or so then I can see that the signal is iffy due to a co-located target. I have found a lot of coins this way that are close to trash metals. I don

I use the cross hairs LOL BUT I went to Office depot and bought a pack of those protective plastic stick on covers for palm pilot's , I had to cut it down to fit on my screen then I turned sens. way down layed my Ex on the bed and passed tons and tons of old and new coins under the coil and on every coin I put a blue tiny dot where it hit on the screen so now I have a better chance of IDing a target but remember the deep ones do bounce around but I can still see where it hits . Works for me anyway .Frank

I saw that posted once before and thought what a good idea. A grid on the screen would be nice if it can be done similar to how an oscilloscope screen has grids. I cannot see the screen clear enough to tell where the crosshairs are when it comes to a fine definition between a pulltab and ring. I can do that with some when it comes to tones in conjunction with the digital numbers. The dots on the protective plastic stick on covers for palm pilot's in conjunction with tones appear to be a great idea.

I use the digital screen 90 percent of the time when coinshooting. I have increased my nickel finds considerably since going to the digital mode.
