Wish I had My Explorer

Hello All,
Sounds like everyone is making the usual good hauls.
I used to follow this forum very closely, my posting name was TC RI. Unfortunately this is the first time I have been online in 7 months.
I am in one of the best places to metal detect. People have been living here for 6000 years. Unfortunately I can't do any detecting. My national guard unit was activated on February 3rd and I have been in Iraq for about 5 months. I am dying to do some detecting over here, but of course it would be too dangerous even if I did have my explorer with me. I went out to some of the locals today and they showe me some coins they claimed were 2400 years old. They were pretty small, but you could clearly see the head on the coin, if you could call it a coin. They usually find them when they are plowing the fields.
I usually stay at Baghdad International Airport, but for the next couple of weeks I am staying about 70 miles south of Baghdad, about 15 miles from Babylon.
This place (Iraq) is pretty whacked out, but I should make it back whith my arms and legs intact.
I will try to send some pics of the coins and the area.
Good Hunting

Wow! What an honor to hear from a detectorist on the front lines. Our prayers and best wishes are with you. I can imagine the trash ( shrapnel, bullet casings etc. ) could make our few old nails and pull tabs pale in comparison to what you would have to go through. I do know however what is like to detect in a "combat zone" as I detect inner city sites frequently.
Anyhow, stay safe and looking to hear more of your adventures on your return.
