Wish I bought a Compadre (instead of Ace 150)

Last year I bought my daughter an ACE 150 for Christmas, but after reading and hearing everything on the forum about the Compadre (at a comparable price tag) I wish I had known about the Tesoro. Does any body know a a repudable dealers who would consider the 150 on a trade (plus the difference in cost) for a new Compadre?

Any one of the Findmall sponsors can help you. Many have banner ads at the top of the f
As both machines are not relatively expensive, you may just want to keep your present detectorcr as a bkup and just buy a new compadre

I agree with the previous poster=use as a backup. I have the Ace 250 and the Compadre. You can approach some characteristics of the Compadre in a/m mode and just ignore the iron "boops" . You may also find, as I have, that some locations make the coins mode invaluable. In either case, you just use the strengths of each machine. Don't forget, the Compadre is beep-dig.

Sell the Ace 150 on your local craigslist, you will probably get more out of it than in trade. The compadre will pay for itself quickly.

I agree, put her on Craigs list. Remember you will have a slight learning curve going to beep and dig. You will also dig a little more trash to get the real goodies you see posted on here. There is no magic wand. Guys like Tabman and Deliveryboy find lots of goodies, but they do their fair share of digging to be rewarded. If you learn a beep and dig everything else is a cake walk.

Much to learn yes... but I used to own a BH 840 which was a beep and dig. One-tone and you learned from how the tone sounded as to what was likely to be under the coil. I can still remember how sweet sounding silver sounded. Now you just don't have that with the Ace 150 - "bell tone." This is why I am so interested in the Tesoros, same basic idea as my older BH but BETTER still with advanced circuitry and some other nice features.

You will enjoy the compadre. After a while you will learn them beeps and the way they sound. On that other detector, Just put a stick under it and call it your sucker.. Just kidding. It can be used for a back up for both of you.. Have fun... KEN

Sorry,
Another thought...
Your Ace has already depreciated the way a new car does driving it off the lot, moreso on a dealer trade compared to selling yourself.
Since you already took a heavy hit, use the Ace until you recover enough clad with it to make up the difference in what you initially paid. You'll make your money back quicker than you think.
If by then you still don't care for it sell it here yourself in the findmall classifieds and you'll get close to, if not the same amount for it youd get selling it now.
IMHO
Good luck and get out there and have some fun when the weather allows!

By the way, good luck to you if really like detecting and are bitten by the bug and still think you're going to get away with only having two detectors!

I started with an ace 250 and liked it less every time.
I used it

Now have a compadre and love it.

Maybe you can swap the 150 for a pinpointer?

Thanks to all for the replies. I think I will keep the 150 (it is my daughters and is probably better suited for her). I am sure I will eventuelly buy the Compadre, but first I will purchase a new mid-range Tesoro. I really like the Golden uMax but I want the depth and GB features of the Vaq. I have decided to wait and see whatTesoro announces soon.

Any idea on when that might be? Is there a Spring MD show that these announcements are usually made at? I sure hope, whatever it is, that one of these new models will be like the Golden umax with tones and especially that notch feature, but with more depth and the GB for both modes. I hope they utilize the trigger/toggle below the control box (like the Tejon) for pin-pointing and quick access to alternate mode.

I think that's a wise decision. Don't diss the Ace-I would never sell mine. Of course I've learned using it. I hardly ever use the pinpoint function on my 250 because I've used other detectors-like the Compadre- and know how to pinpoint faster without it. It didn't let Garrett build a bigger building for nothing. Of course the first 5" is deep enough for me. Hint: experiment with the sensitivity until you get the best combination of depth and stability.
