Whats the best detector for Wisconsin soil.I own the XLT The Explorer and the Idx do I have the best all ready?Explorer has a hard time in this soil .The XLT does better but never more then 6 inches.IDX found my oldest coin 1867 2 cent piece but just down 4 inches.Maybee I should get the CZ3d or the Cortez.

I live in Wisconsin also and have used many different detectors here and presently use the Shadow X5, explorer, Fisher CZ3D and a MXT. The soil here varies very much as far as mineralization from south to north with the south generally the least mineralization (near neutral in some places) to very much higher mineralization in the far north. Most of my hunting is done in the central to south portions of the state. In central and south WI I have found coins as deep as 10-11"'s with the X5 and Explorer and 9-10"'s with the CZ and MXT. I have at least 3 different coils for each of my machines. I don't hunt the far north but some of my buddies hunt there a lot and the indian copper they find is very deep 15+ inches and they find some awful small pieces at that depth with the X5, explorer, MXT and the minelab gold machines. I guess I would just say that for Wisconsin hunting you should have a detector that can handle some high mineralization. I won't get into brands here but there are a couple of brands that just don't do well in hot ground with any of their units. I also go to Northern Virginia twice a year to hunt in the hottest soil I've ever seen and my units all work well there. ArtWI

did ok with it in the central and southern part of the state. I have all 3 coils for the CZ3D but mostly used the big on (10"). Deepest coins were around 10" and I did notice an increase in the 4-8" coins that were on edge. The CZ3D is pretty bottom heavy with the big coil attached but I hip mounted when I was going to spend a long day hunting. I took it to Virginia relic hunting once and when my X5 got drenched I took it out. The ground was about like we have in south WI. Dug some deep buttons and bullets with no problems. The CZ classroom here on Findmall has lots of info on the CZ's. I may put mine up for sale as I don't use it much now as the X5 and MXT just seem to work the best for me.
