Wireless headphones putting out EMI?????

Grunter

I dirtfish with a friend who is running a CTX with wireless headphones. When I try to hunt around him I get a huge amount of interference. He attempts to tune out my detector on his machine. I back off and try not to hunt closer than 15 yds from him and lower my sensitivity but it doesn't help much. I'm running a DFX which I know is real sensitive to EMIs. Could the signal from his wireless headphones be causing interference?

It is probably not the headphones but Minelabs in general are well known to interfere with other detectors because of the broad band spectrum they transmit. Many things to try to help reduce the EMI:

Have him do a noise cancel with you nearby with the DFX turned on.

You can try several things, one is reduce the Gain and AC, and/or go to Correlate mode, and/or reduce the filters to 2 and I have heard that reducing the VDI Sensitivity will help some as well. You can also try a single frequency, probably the 15 KHZ would be the best one.

Larry, I appreciate the feedback. I tried almost everything you suggested but going into correlate mode. I also will try a single 15 next time we hunt. My friend used an Etrac and I didn't have those problems while running my DFX.. His Etrac never interfered with my ATP unless I was about 6' from him. I think since the ATP operates on 15 KHZ then my DFX might do better at that single frequency.

15 KHZ might be worth the try. My wife uses her MXT and I the CTX and we can hunt 6 feet apart without interference but the DFX is a little more temperamental. You just have to keep trying different things and I'm sure something will work.
