Winter hunting, is it true its gets better in the winter?

Still find it hard to believe but does the winter storms (noreasters) really make the hunting any better? Anybody attest to that or have proof or is it a fad to get everyone to vamped up and psyched for the slowest time of year? Please respond, I want to learn this sport?
 
Winter hunting is the best time of the year... less detectorists, leaving all the more for me :)
